Anthony Crolla world title fight postponed after altercation with robbers

English lightweight Anthony Crolla was looking forward to challenging Richard Abril for his WBA world lightweight title next year, but that dream has been thrown up in the air after he suffered injuries challenging robbers near his home. Crolla broke his ankle and suffered a fractured skull in confronting the robbers

Promoter Eddie Hearn said, “We are all absolutely gutted for Anthony and our concerns right now are with him and his family and his recovery.

“Anthony has worked incredibly hard to get himself into a position to fight for a World title and we all hope he will still realize that opportunity.”

The Matchroom Boxing show scheduled for Friday, January 23 will not go ahead. Matchroom are working to reschedule the undercard fights from that show, including Brian Rose’s WBC International Light Middleweight title fight against Carson Jones.

All tickets purchased through Matchroom Boxing & Eventim will be automatically refunded. Tickets purchased at the Phones4u Arena should be returned to the Arena for a full refund.
