Forget About Blaming Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao; Look at Bob Arum and Richard Schaefer
According to ESPN, Bob Arum has officially called off what would have been the highest grossing, most entertaining fight of all time! Yes, you heard me correctly. After hurting the potential international exposure of the fight by turning down a $20 million offer from Jerry Jones to host the event at Cowboys' Stadium in Dallas, the two promoters, Arum of Top Rank Boxing and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Productions could not put their personal feelings aside to make this happen.
Say what you will...this had nothing to do with drug testing or defamation lawsuits. This had everything to do with "bad blood" in the relationship between the sport's two top executives.
A lawsuit between the two promotion companies, that began with a disagreement over Manny Pacquiao's representation several years ago, has grown into a war that has officially ended a fight that would have helped boxing off of the canvas for good. Would these guys please just get out of the way so those of us who enjoy boxing for the pure sport of it can have match ups like this to look forward to?
Your infantile disagreements and immature egotism are killing the very thing that has made you rich. Your fans deserve to see "Pac Man" and "Pretty Boy"... We don't deserve you!

Of course, everyone has their own opinions on who should get the blame if the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight truly is finished. And really, everybody played a part.
It's inexcusable to think that all sides could walk away from a fight that would not only generate $200 million, but would also cement the fighters and their place in history to an entirely new degree. Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey and Floyd Mayweather vs. Paulie Malignaggi in its place?
The bottom line is there is no excuse for this, but some of the blame for Pacquiao vs. Mayweather being canceled belongs with Bob Arum and Richard Schaefer.
Without question, the reason this fight didn’t happen was because of the ego’s of Schaefer and Arum. Mostly Bob Arum. From the onset of Arum entering the promotion areana with Don King, he has been a detriment to the boxing world. The good thing is that Arum is 80 years old. His days remaining are few and hopefully someone younger and more vibrant will begin ptomotions with less greed and ego as we see with Bob Arum.

Shawn Finally someone with some sense, I keep hearing how pacquiao is gonna beat mayweather and whatnot. I see the fight going the same way you do, which is a boring 12 rd decision going to mayweather. dont get me wrong pacquiao is good in his own right, but this is a fight he can’t win, just put it this way if pacquiao had such a hard time with marquez… what does marquez possess that mayweather does not posses ten fold. More speed, better defense, better foot movement, bigger, and a better punch. mayweather is not going to stand toe to toe with pacquiao. This fight would not be as good as people make it out to be. think about this pacquiao when he fights he gets off balance.. its true he does horrible foot work mayweather will tag him all night long, after all he is the one of the best counter punchers, which is why marquez was so succesful in catching pacquiao off balance.
If blood testing is institutionalized in international/professional boxing, no doubt Pacquiao will adhere to that. Pac and his team always indicated, whatever is required by the boxing commission or boxing authorities, they will abide. One could argue that boxing is behind as far as doping tests are concerned, i tend to agree with that. However, there should be a centralized body that should oversee the consistency and quality of testing and it should be properly vetted out by experts in sports medicine e.g. whether its a combination of urine and blood thats best for professional boxing. I don’t like the knee jerk type that Mayweather is asking just because he has suddenly connected with his inner olympic spirit self.
Definitely, Pacquiao will not adhere to giving in to a Group which is “not a paragon of virtues” – Mayweather Camp that continues to hug the limelight – for all the wrong reasons (run-ins with the law, tax problems, etc) and GBP which has a history of fighters ducking blood tests (and now trying to act like angels . . oh yeah, more like angels of dis-information and dirty tactics). In fairness, Arum and Camp Pacquiao have their own negative points as well, however, what we want to point out e.g. whoever has not sinned/erred, let him cast the first stone? (so although, the idea of asking blood test sounds chivalrous . . but, if you do it at the same time, insinuate by going to various media outlets to claim that Pac is into something . . that smacks pure hypocrisy! which is un-acceptable . . and thats probably why Pacquiao strengthened his position not to give in to these two timers)
Its unfortunate we always get excuses from those of the opposite side – - (a) Pacquiao is fighting washed up fighters . . next (b) Pacquiao the catch weight king . . . when, these two wouldn’t fly, even if these people shouted to the ends of the earth . . they, instantly rode on the (c) Pac must be on the roids. WOW, from dismissing Pacquiao’s performance as so-so . . to saying, “his hitting guys with a strength of a mule” . . same excuse, Delahoya was making “i thought pacquiao was fast, but he did’nt hit strong . . to suddenly, changing the music to claim that Pac hits like Mosley”.
So guys, the majority of the boxing fans and mainstream people will not buy in to your crap (check the various websites and its overwhelming to Pac’s favor between 70%-90%). Lets see how the PPV of Mayweather stacks up moving forward (i.e. the only reason people watch him vs the bulk-slow moving Marquez, was a possible preview against Pac) . . bet Mayweather’s future numbers will not come close to Pac Monster, thats for sure!
I think the proof in who is to blame for this fiasco will be revealed soon. Mayweather and Co. were caught flat-footed when Pacquiao and Arum quickly moved on to making a March 13th fight in Dallas with Joshua Clottey. They are now saying that they too will fight on March 13th. Both guys are HBO fighters. Having moved first and having been proven as a bigger draw, Pacman ain’t giving up a March 13th PPV, not when he is fighting such a solid contender. If Mayweather won’t share the PPV limelight or come to some reasonable compromise, I think that is pretty much proof positive of his attitude.
I have no doubts that Mayweather will not cooperate with HBO on this matter – it is in his character to seek to force a “him or me” showdown. I frankly think this decable is entirely his fault, and wonder why anyone who isn’t rabidly pro-Mayweather would think otherwise. Blame Top Rank and Golden Boy? Yeesh, it’s not like those guys don’t want to make $100 million a piece.
