Right now there are no crossover stars in boxing that every decade, going all the way back to Jack Johnson, has had. But some young knockout king will come along. Individual sports are more dependent on stars than team sports. Look at track & field, which was all but dead and buried, but has now seen a sudden resurgence with the emergence of Bolt. Tennis is another sport that needs stars. Swimming was nothing before Phelps came along. Golf would be less than nothing without Woods. Boxing goes as it’s stars go. I recently wrote about my (and lots of other boxing fans) seeking fighting entertainment in MMA. Too many boxing purist are still under estimating the appeal of MMA to true fight fans. http://tonymackeypr.blogspot.com/2009/09/boxing-continues-to-ko-itself.html I don’t disagree with your over all take that while boxing is having serious problems it will survive, but I must say the sport that I love needs to do A LOT of work to get me back.
