Canelo vs. Lara Weights

  • Canelo Alvarez: 155 lbs
  • Erislandy Lara: 155 lbs

The contracted weight for the fight was 155 lbs.

It’s no surprise that Canelo was the big fan favorite at the weigh-ins. The pro-Mexican crowd was there to support him, along with Mares, Vargas and Herrera, and they booed all the opponents, including Lara, JuanMa, Oquendo and Perez.

Each man looks to be in great shape. Lara is more cut and trim, Canelo more muscular. Both guys were very confident. There was a quick but intense staredown, and it seemed that each man was clearly done with the talking at this point, and ready to prove it in the ring where it counts.

That only lasted until the post weigh-in interview, when Lara paid homage to the Mexican fans by saying “Viva Mexico”, but also went on to say — “I’m going to break his face right here, in front of everybody.”

Canelo responded by saying “We’ll see who will take who to school.”

Undercard Weights

  • Abner Mares: 126.5 lbs
  • Jonathan Oquendo: 126.5 lbs

The contracted weight for the fight was 127 lbs.

Both guys are in excellent condition, and Mares has certainly filled out his frame at featherweight, looking muscular. But we’ll see if that works for him in the ring, and he’s coming off a nearly year-long layoff following his shocking, sudden KO loss to Jhonny Gonzalez. Mares was amped up at the weigh-in, clearly eager to get back into action, and saying he’s 100% back.

  • Juan Manuel Lopez: 130 lbs
  • Francisco Vargas: 129 lbs

Vargas, the unbeaten but largely untested prospect, has a solid couple of inches on JuanMa, clearly the bigger guy and more natural fighter for this division.

  • Mauricio Herrera: 140 lbs
  • Johan Perez: 140 lbs

It’s finally fight time tomorrow night! Thanks for checking out our coverage of the Canelo vs. Lara weigh-in results!
