Cam Awesome advances to quarterfinals, USA Boxing goes 4-2 over latest Olympic qualifying action

Two American boxers competed in Olympic qualifying competition to start the week and the pair went one and one on the day. Heavyweight Cam F. Awesome (Lenexa, Kansas) recorded his second tournament victory on Monday at the World Olympic Qualifying Event in Baku, Azerbaijan. Welterweight Paul Kroll (Philadelphia, Pa.) fell in his third bout of the tournament in Monday’s preliminary competition at the Sarhadchi Arena.

Team USA men’s boxers off to strong start at final Olympic qualifiers

Team USA enjoyed success on the first full day of the World Olympic Qualifying Event on Friday at the Sarhadchi Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan with all three U.S. competitors taking wins. Flyweight Antonio Vargas (Kissimmee, Fla.) and light welterweight Gary Russell (Capitol Heights, Md.) scored victories in the early session and light heavyweight Jonathan Esquivel (Anaheim, Calif.) continued the winning streak in the evening.

Final Rio 2016 boxing qualifier event set to kickoff in Baku

Historic AIBA Extraordinary Congress approves registration of non-AIBA professional boxers for all competitions The International Boxing Association (AIBA) convened an Extraordinary Congress in Lausanne on June 1st in a bid to remove Article 13 (J) of the AIBA Statutes. The new article will open the doors to boxers from all organisations to participate in AIBA competitions. This amendment was ratified by an overwhelming majority of 95% of the delegates attended the Extraordinary Congress.
