Widely considered to be one of female boxing’s best pound for pound fighters, Moreno Valley, California’s Kaliesha West will return home to fight in Southern California on Saturday, September 18 to face South Carolina’s Angel Gladney for the vacant WBO Bantamweight World Title on the off-television portion of the “200: Celebrate and Dominate” Mosley vs. Mora undercard at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.

Klitschko vs. Briggs: Shouldn’t We Expect More?

-As Vitali Klitschko prepares for his WBC defense against challenger Shannon Briggs, are fans getting what they deserve and what do we have to look forward to in boxing’s flagship division?-
Things could have been so good for heavyweight boxing. In the form of the imposing, stern, chillingly impassive Klitschko brothers, the division was supplied with the perfect bad guys. ‘Dr Ironfist’ (Vitali) and ‘Dr Steelhammer’ (Wladimir) naturally fit the eastern European stereotype in terms of personality and physical specimens; they resemble Ivan Drago from Rocky. But where’s Rocky?

Sam Peter (34-3, 27 KOs), is in his final week of training camp in the high altitude of Big Bear, Calif.  A native of Nigeria, now fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev., Peter will break camp on September 2 and head to Frankfurt, Germany to challenge IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KOs.) Promoted by KMG and K2, in association with Top Rank, Klitschko vs. Peter will take place Saturday, September 11 at the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt.

The Never Ending Story: Holyfield Still Fighting
On November 5, 2010 four-time heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield (43-10, 28KOs) will be facing journeyman Sherman Williams (34-11, 19KOs) in another contest as he builds up towards what he hopes is another title shot.  Holyfield, who will be 48 upon entering the ring, still clings to the hope of winning the heavyweight crown for a fifth time.  Skeptics scoff at Holyfield’s seemingly unattainable goal, but can it be said that Holyfield’s decision to continue to fight is really that crazy?

Mikkel Kessler Out of Super Six Due to Eye Injury

Bout Against Allan Green Canceled; Kessler Drops Out of Tournament
Team Sauerland regrets to inform the boxing world that WBC Super Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler has been forced to pull out of the Super Six World Boxing Classic due to an eye injury. His title defense against Allan Green in Herning, Denmark on September 25 has been cancelled. “This is the most disappointing moment of my boxing career,” Kessler said.
