Hot Golden Boy prospect Saul Alvarez is back in action on the undercard of the Shane Mosley vs. Sergio Mora bout. Alvarez takes on former welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir, a tough, pressuring opponent, who should provide some resistance for the young budding star and see what he’s made of. The two hosted a conference call to discuss the pending battle. Here’s the transcript…

CALIFORNIA’S KALIESHA WEST TO BATTLE ANGEL GLADNEY FOR BANTAMWEIGHT CROWN ON SEPTEMBER 18 AT STAPLES CENTER
Widely considered to be one of female boxing’s best pound for pound fighters, Moreno Valley, California’s Kaliesha West will return home to fight in Southern California on Saturday, September 18 to face South Carolina’s Angel Gladney for the vacant WBO Bantamweight World Title on the off-television portion of the “200: Celebrate and Dominate” Mosley vs. Mora undercard at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.

-As Vitali Klitschko prepares for his WBC defense against challenger Shannon Briggs, are fans getting what they deserve and what do we have to look forward to in boxing’s flagship division?-
Things could have been so good for heavyweight boxing. In the form of the imposing, stern, chillingly impassive Klitschko brothers, the division was supplied with the perfect bad guys. ‘Dr Ironfist’ (Vitali) and ‘Dr Steelhammer’ (Wladimir) naturally fit the eastern European stereotype in terms of personality and physical specimens; they resemble Ivan Drago from Rocky. But where’s Rocky?

-Stacked Mosley vs. Mora Undercard Gets Better-
On a night celebrating the Bicentennial of Mexican Independence, it is only fitting that two Mexican warriors open up the star-studded September 18 pay-per-view telecast from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, as former World Champion Daniel Ponce De Leon of Chihuahua squares off against Ciudad Juarez native Antonio Escalante in what promises to be a bona-fide Fight of the Year candidate.

Sam Peter (34-3, 27 KOs), is in his final week of training camp in the high altitude of Big Bear, Calif.  A native of Nigeria, now fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev., Peter will break camp on September 2 and head to Frankfurt, Germany to challenge IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KOs.) Promoted by KMG and K2, in association with Top Rank, Klitschko vs. Peter will take place Saturday, September 11 at the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt.

The Victor Ortiz vs. Vivian Harris bout is coming up in September, on the undercard of the Sept 18 PPV headlined by Shane Mosley vs. Sergio Mora. The two fighters from this undercard match recently held a conference call to discuss the pending battle, once rumored to be in the works several years ago.

The Never Ending Story: Holyfield Still Fighting
On November 5, 2010 four-time heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield (43-10, 28KOs) will be facing journeyman Sherman Williams (34-11, 19KOs) in another contest as he builds up towards what he hopes is another title shot.  Holyfield, who will be 48 upon entering the ring, still clings to the hope of winning the heavyweight crown for a fifth time.  Skeptics scoff at Holyfield’s seemingly unattainable goal, but can it be said that Holyfield’s decision to continue to fight is really that crazy?

Some of boxing’s top young talent will be featured on the Thursday, August 26 edition of the hit series “Fight Night Club,” when Golden Boy Promotions and AEG bring a night of explosive boxing action featuring Ronny Rios from L.A. LIVE’s Club Nokia.

Bout Against Allan Green Canceled; Kessler Drops Out of Tournament
Team Sauerland regrets to inform the boxing world that WBC Super Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler has been forced to pull out of the Super Six World Boxing Classic due to an eye injury. His title defense against Allan Green in Herning, Denmark on September 25 has been cancelled. “This is the most disappointing moment of my boxing career,” Kessler said.

Estadio Cubierto Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario, Argentina will be the place to be for Argentine boxing fans on Friday, August 27 as Lucas Matthysse and Sebastian Lujan step into the ring against seasoned foes in bouts which will be broadcast throughout Latin America on HBO Plus’ “Next Boxing Generation” and on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” in the United States and Puerto Rico.
