The Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto II welterweight rumble is now about a month away, as it takes place on February 11th. The press conference for the Vitali Klitschko vs. Dereck Chisora heavyweight championship match was held today in London. Both Klitschko and Chisora were there and were in good spirits, and were able to joke around a bit and have some fun, while taking some shots at one another verbally but not taking anything too seriously. Tonight, DiBella Entertainment (DBE) will kick off its 2012 boxing year with the season opener of ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” from Mallory Square in beautiful Key West, FL. Headlining the card will be DiBella Entertainment’s world-rated super middleweight contender (WBA #9, WBC #10) Dyah Davis (20-2-1, 9KO’s) taking on Alfonso Lopez (22-1, 17KO’s) in a 10-round showdown.
Tomorrow night on Shobox from the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, boxing fans will be treated to a nice doubleheader. The main event features hot undefeated prospect Luis Ramos Jr. taking on the battle tested veteran Raymundo Beltran. In to co-featured bout, two undefeateds square off in a very intriguing match between Michael Perez and Omar Figueroa. Although it remains unclear whether Chavez is defending his WBC Middleweight Title on February 4th, or even if Chavez will still have the title, it is clear that his clash with Marco Antonio Rubio is going ahead anyway. This all-Mexican clash at the Alamodome in San Antonio features two middleweight contenders who are most likely underrated.
For his part, the champion is widely derided as only having gone right to the WBC’s green strap because of his famous name, pointedly avoiding top opposition along the way. …
When he opens the new NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night series on January 21, 2012 at Asylum Arena in his hometown of Philadelphia, top Heavyweight Contender “Fast” Eddie Chambers has promised to impress Philly’s discerning boxing fans and make lots of new ones. According to Chambers, taking on former World Heavyweight Champion Siarhei “White Wolf” Liakhovich in a high profile, nationally televised fight is a great way to showcase the sport and bring new fans for the Sweet Science.
Two of the most recognizable names in boxing will make their long-awaited returns to the ring tomorrow, Dec. 30, when Jermain Taylor and Andre Dirrell are featured in separate 10-round fights on a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation live on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, Calif.
Taylor, (28-4-1, 17 KOs), of Little Rock, Ark., is a former undisputed middleweight champion who’ll be making his first start in 26 months when he meets Jessie Nicklow (22-2-3, 8 KOs) …

Once upon a time, Dereck Chisora was slated to duke it out with Wladimir Klitschko. Most likely, the agreement to fight Chisora was just a negotiating tactic in the prolonged dance between world class let-down David Haye and Dr. Steelhammer, and it was soon called off. Chisora’s career has suffered since then, before he looked great in an unfortunate losing effort in his last bout, and now he is back on February 18th, taking on Klitschko the Elder before a very pro-Klitschko Munich crowd.
