There were several big cards last night for fight fans to enjoy, including ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, headlined by the Michael Katsidis vs. Albert Mensah fight. Mensah upset the combeacking Katsidis and won a majority decision in their 10 round clash. In Germany, Felix Sturm defended his title against Sebastian Zbik. Yesterday at the official weigh-ins for tonight’s HBO PPV card, Brandon Rios failed to make the lightweight limit. The Rios vs. Abril fight will still go on, however, Rios can’t win the title which is at stake. He has said this will be his last fight at lightweight. Rising junior lightweight star Joel Diaz Jr. (8-0, 7 KOs), of Palmdale Calif., has a new opponent for his scheduled eight-round bout on April 28, at the Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort in Chester, West Virginia. Diaz was supposed to fight Georgi Kevlishvili (10-3, 3 KOs), but will now face Columbian, Yogli Herrera (22-14, 15 KOs), a rugged veteran of 35 fights. Kevlishvili had to pull out for personal issues unrelated to boxing.
