David Haye injured, fight with Manuel Charr postponed

Well, that didn’t last long. David Haye’s upcoming fight against Manuel Charr has been postponed, due to an injury suffered by Haye in training camp. Apparently Haye injured his left hand during a session on Sunday night, and after reviewing their options, he and his team felt there was no other choice besides postponing the fight, and the event.

Haye was planning to use the Charr fight as a springboard to a title shot at Vitali Klitschko. Klitschko, of course, fought and defeated Charr in his last fight.

The fight was also part of a plan for Haye to return to a higher activity level, fighting at least twice per year. For now, both of these goals are on the backburner. And while Haye was nothing but apologetic and seemingly forthright in his discussions on the fight postponement, one wonders where his true motivations lie, and whether or not he was ever planning to go through with the fight, or hoping something else came along in its place.

I can’t help but feel a bit doubtful that we’ll ever see this fight come off at this point. In and of itself, that’s not a crushing blow, but it is for Haye’s stated goals. Perhaps ticket sales weren’t strong, and they are shooting this one down while they still had a reasonable chance.

There’s no official word on how long Haye will be out of action for, or when the fight against Charr could get rescheduled. Fans who did buy tickets can get a full refund of their purchase, or will be able to use them for the rescheduled date if that ends up coming to fruition.
