When you check out the Donaire vs. Montiel odds above, you might be surprised to see Donaire as the favorite. At least some people would be surprised, that is. That’s because Montiel has done more at 118 lbs than Nonito Donaire has, and between the two, has a far more marquee win in recent memory, stopping the great Hozumi Hasegawa in 2010 in the fourth round.

However, Donaire certainly impressed in his lightning quick destruction of former champion Wladimir Sidorenko in his last bout, to help finalize and secure this meeting of stars. In the early betting action, he’s going off as a -220 favorite, with Montiel coming in at a +160 underdog.

If you’re a fan of Montiel and the work that he has done lately, you have to love the chance to bet on him as the underdog against Donaire here. It’s rare that you get to see those kinds of numbers for such a talented fighter. However, Donaire fans will be quick to point out that perhaps he’s past his best days, and he’ll be facing too much against the youth, talent and power of Nonito.

The over under for the contest hasn’t been released at the time of this publishing, however, with the power that both of these men bring to the table, as well as their offensive styles, there is likely to be some very interesting figures there. So stay tuned for that, and use the Donaire vs. Montiel odds above to place down your bets on the fighter you think will emerge as the best bantamweight in the world.
