Juan Pablo Lopez, Jeffrey Fontanez & Roberto Manzanarez in action in Cancun

Televisa and FOX Deportes will close out August in style this Saturday, August 30, with an explosive tripleheader at the Gran Oasis Arena in Cancun, Mexico featuring top competitors from Mexico and Puerto Rico.

In the 10-round main event, it’s a welterweight showdown as Tijuana’s Juan Pablo Lopez faces off with Ponce, Puerto Rico’s Fernando Torres. The 10-round co-main event will see unbeaten Caguas lightweight Jeffrey Fontanez take on Mexico City’s Gilberto Gonzalez, and in the televised 10-round lightweight opener, Los Mochis’ Roberto Manzanarez meets up with Mexicali’s Ricardo Castillo.

A ferocious puncher with dynamite in his fists, Juan Pablo “Che Che” Lopez (25-3, 21 KOs) is a crowd pleaser of the highest order, and with 18 of his 25 wins coming by knockout in three rounds or less, the Tijuana native isn’t one to stick around longer than he has to in the ring. On Saturday, he will meet up with 30-year-old Puerto Rican veteran Fernando Torres (18-5-1, 10 KOs), an eight-year pro hoping to take Lopez into some deep waters and score the upset in Cancun.

A rising star from the boxing rich island of Puerto Rico, Caguas’ Jeffrey Fontanez (15-0, 11 KOs) continues to grow into a top-flight boxer in front of the world. Owner of 2014 wins over Orlando Vazquez and Adrian Verdugo, the 22-year-old will make his debut in Mexico against Mexico City’s Gilberto “Flaco” Gonzalez (22-3, 18 KOs), an experienced power puncher who has won four straight, all by knockout, making this one of the most highly-anticipated bouts of the weekend.

19-year-old lightweight phenom Robert “Tito” Manzanarez (27-1, 23 KOs) has compiled an amazing record as a teenager, and the sky is the limit for the Los Mochis product, who holds the WBC Youth Intercontinental title that he has defended three times. Currently on a six fight winning streak with all wins coming by knockout, Manzanarez will seek a seventh consecutive victory this Saturday against experienced Mexicali native Ricardo “Piolo” Castillo (40-11-1, 26 KOs), the brother of former world champion Jose Luis Castillo, and a three-time former world title challenger himself.

Lopez vs. Torres, a 10-round welterweight bout, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Pepe Gomez Cancun Boxing and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 6pm CT and the first fight begins at 6:30pm CT. The Televisa broadcast will air on Canal 5 and begins at 10:30pm CST (Delayed Broadcast) and the FOX Deportes broadcast will air at 10 pm ET/7pm PT (Live Broadcast).
