Chavez Jr vs. Lee Results from El Paso

In front of an enthusiastic crowd in El Paso, Texas, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. scored the biggest win of his career by breaking down and stopping Andy Lee in the 7th round of their middleweight title fight. Chavez Jr. was simply too big, too strong and too determined, and Lee couldn’t hold up to it for the duration. The official time of the victory was 2:21 of the 7th round.

Lee came out of the gates looking strong, and sound. The well trained and highly skilled southpaw began popping off his jab, and was easily outworking Chavez Jr., who has been getting a reputation as a slow starter.

This continued for the first two rounds, before Chavez Jr. basically decided to turn on his A-game. At this point, he picked up his own work rate, and began throwing hefty shots to the body, and following those up with harder shots to the head. Lee was able to take them, but more and more, he began to fight Chavez’s fight, allowing himself to be pushed to the ropes and cornered.

Chavez continued to increase his pressure and aggression, and assert his will on the fight. His confidence also was increasing, and he was taunting Lee and goading him into a brawl. During this time, there were some fantastic exchanges between the two fighters, with each man showing some serious chin, grit and fighting spirit.

Ultimately though, Chavez Jr. had too much size and strength. In the 7th round, he backed Lee to the ropes, and just went to town. He launched a huge left to the body that opened up a crushing right hook to the head, mixed in with about a dozen other shots which forced the stoppage of the bout.

This was the second loss of Lee’s career, and both of them by stoppage. However, he’s still never been knocked down, having been TKO’d on his feet in both instances.

Meanwhile, after the fight, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. said he’s more than ready to face Sergio Martinez next. In fact, he said that he’s ready to face Martinez, and knock him out, to get him to shut up once and for all. The Martinez vs. Chavez Jr. fight would be a great one, and it’s something we’ll hope to see this fall.
