Khan vs. Alexander Round by Round Updates

Rd 1: Khan starting fast with left hooks over Alexander’s southpaw right lead. Khan’s speed troubling Alexander early. Alexander lands on back of Khan’s head as Khan leaves his hands down.

Rd 2: Khan slightly more wild in this round. Alexander caught him coming in with a right hook over the top. Khan still throwing and landing vastly more. Khan given a warning for turning his back.

Rd 3: Khan’s right hand coming into play more and more. Alexander really struggling to react to Khan’s fast flurries. Haven’t seen an uppercut yet from Alexander, something that could work against Khan’s leads.

Rd 4: Alexander staying in the pocket more and trying to land counters as Khan opens up. Khan maintaining his speed and fighting at his own tempo. Clear four rounds for the Bolton man so far.

Rd 5: Khan circling to the left, avoiding Alexander’s southpaw straight left. Khan showing more patience, punctuating the round with a strong straight right hand. Alexander coming forward but still not landing much.

Rd 6: Khan is boxing really well here. A straight one-two lands clean, and lead left hooks are manoeuvring Alexander around the ring.

Rd 7: Alexander coming forward but lacking power on the front foot to trouble Khan. Khan has a clear lead here, and it’s difficult to foresee Alexander getting back into this. Hunter shouting at Khan to stop talking to Akexander in the ring.

Rd 8: Alexander continuing to pursue Khan and landing more here. A couple of sneaky right hooks over the top land as Khan leads with single jabs. Alexander also landed a nice straight left.

Rd 9: Khan gets his focus back in this round, keeping his distance more, perhaps Hunter read him the riot act between rounds? Alexander failed to capitalise on a decent 8th round.

Rd 10: Khan continues to dominate, his hand-speed has been utilised to full effect here tonight. Alexander has two rounds to score a knockout.

Rd 11: Khan using his left hook to spin off Alexander, who continues to chase. Last round coming up, Alexander needs a stoppage.

Rd 12: Alexander just couldn’t pin Khan down in a last round he needed big. Khan boxing simply, occasionally getting more involved than he needs to, but all in all a fantastic performance from him.

Thurman vs. Bundu Results

Thurman started fast against Bundu, landing a short left hand as Bundu rolled in, sending the Italian to the canvas in the first round. That was the last moment of real drama in the bout. Thurman would go on to win every single round, with each round blurring into the next.

Bundu failed to pin an elusive Thurman down as he attacked. Thurman boxed conservatively, saving his energy for a long-distance fight. The result was that Thurman kept his distance, always out-boxing but rarely hurting Bundu. The crowd booed, but it was a measured display by the young American against a respected, durable veteran.

Official Scores: 120-107 Thurman (x3)

Mares vs. Ramirez Results

Mares found a much tougher fight than initially expected in Ramirez. Ramirez came in overweight last night but came out firing, throwing shots with wild abandon. Mares’ more selective punch-picking proved vital, timing the game Ramirez as he came inside. Mares knocked his opponent down three times on route  to a between-rounds stoppage after an extremely one-sided 5th round.

The fight was called off after the 5th, which saw Ramirez knocked down after a wonderful combination from Mares that left Ramirez on the seat of his pants, shaking his head. Credit must go to both men: Ramirez for making a tough fight of it, Mares for boxing assuredly under fire.
