Analysis
Cotto has been stripped of our championship, but nevertheless, elsewhere, he’s still the reigning middleweight kingpin. So to see Canelo come in as a rather large favorite is a bit of surprise. People are liking Canelo’s youth, power and size, his work rate and aggression, and his rising star status.
Yet, there’s a lot to consider with this fight, and the odds seem to be swaying too far in Canelo’s favor. If Cotto comes in at full strength physically and mentally, and with a sound game plan from Freddie Roach, he’s more than capable of pulling off the “upset” here. With his big fight experience, veteran’s savvy and underrated boxing skills, getting him as an underdog at +220 is a tremendous value. Even more so is the value of picking his method of victory, with a Cotto decision currently at +375 and a Cotto stoppage at +450.
The odds will certainly change by fight night, and so might my stance on the outcome, but as of right now, those types of odds on Miguel Cotto are too good for me to pass up on.
