Garcia vs. JuanMa Lopez Weights:

  • Mikey Garcia: 128 lbs
  • Juan Manuel Lopez: 125.25 lbs

Mikey Garcia stepped on the scales and was two pounds overweight, above the featherweight division limit of 126 lbs. He looked drained and as if he has been struggling to make that number. JuanMa on the other hand looked fit, strong and muscular, and was ready and on weight.

Update: Garcia did not continue trying to make weight, and has forfeited his title on the scales. The WBO belt is only at stake for JuanMa, should he win the bout. Otherwise, the belt becomes vacant.

It was unclear during the proceedings how long Mikey would have to make weight, or whether or not he would be continuing to attempt this. Stay tuned for more updates and whether Garcia ends up making weight, or loses his title on the scales.

Lopez had this to say:

“He wasn’t very professional by not making weight today.”

“I made the weight with no problem. I’ll show you tomorrow what I can do.”

These two definitely seem to have a lot of respect for one another, but at the same time, each seems confident about the fight. JuanMa is also sick of people counting him out, and believes that he has a major chip on his shoulder. He certainly also didn’t appreciate Garcia coming in above weight.

With each man having game-changing power and potentially explosive offensive capabilities, Garcia vs. JuanMa should be a great fight to watch.
