The weigh-ins for the HBO televised Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia fight were held today, and they didn’t go without some drama and controversy. Morales was unable to make the junior welterweight limit, and apparently will have to forfeit his titles. That means that if Garcia wins, he’d take home the belt, but if Morales wins, the belt will remain vacant.

The co-feature of the evening is the exciting James Kirkland vs. Carlos Molina junior middleweight clash, and both of those guys made weight comfortably. Take a look below for complete Morales vs. Garcia weigh-in results.

Morales vs. Garcia – WBC junior welterweight title

  • Erik Morales 142 lbs
  • Danny Garcia 139.5 lbs

As mentioned, Morales wasn’t able to make the 140 lbs limit. According to a Fightnews report, it did not appear that Morales was planning on losing the weight, as he began drinking water and walked away from the scene. So, it appears he’ll just deal with losing the belt one way or the other, and pay some kind of sanction in terms of a percentage of his purse to Danny Garcia to ensure the bout goes forward.

Morales-Garcia Weigh-in Photos

As you can see from the photos, Garcia is absolutely jacked for this fight, and looks extremely cut and in great condition. The benefits of youth, eh?

Meanwhile, Morales looks quite a bit soft – before donning the shirt for stare down – although he has looked that way for basically all of his tenure at 140 lbs. Of course, it’s not how you look, it’s what you’re made of. So we’ll see what it means on fight night.

Update: The WBC has officially confirmed that Morales loses his title on the scales and will not be attempting to make weight.
