Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Bryan Vera Results:

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. had his hands raised on Saturday night in his fight against Bryan Vera, but it’s not a fight he’ll want to remember. Chavez was overweight, and under-trained, and escaped with a more than questionable decision against a game, tough opponent.

The official scorecards read 96-94, 97-93, 98-92 for Chavez Jr. ProBoxing-Fans.com scored the fight in Vera’s favor.

It was a battle of wills, and it was also a battle of good vs. evil. Vera has never been the “good guy” in his career, but here, he was the consummate professional with all of the heart and spirit in the world. And Chavez was the pampered, classless, name fighter who couldn’t make weight and changed the rules to fit his personal needs.

Throughout the fight, Vera outworked the overweight and under-trained Chavez. Chavez would land harder blows from time to time, but it was Vera who kept the pace and stayed in his face all night long. He threw double the shots, and he landed more than his big name opponent as well.

The crowd booed the decision, and cheered Vera, and in the post-fight interview, Chavez didn’t have much to offer beyond excuses.

But the scorecards were outrageous. Not only did the wrong guy win, but he won widely on the three cards, including one in which he was ruled as winning eight of 10 rounds. That just didn’t come close to happening.

Chavez vs. Vera was a farce of the fight, made worse by the unjust, ridiculous scorecards.

It was a bad showing from Chavez, and really a bad moment for the sport which allowed Chavez to set his own agenda and have no regard for the weight classes and rules of the sport, and the contract he signed for the fight.
