Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Still a Go For Later in 2010?

Pacquiao Wants to Shut Mayweather Up; Roach Thinks Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Still Happens Later in 2010

You didn't think that all of the drama, hype and news surrounding the potential Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight was just going to disappear, did you? Well, it's all brought back up to the surface again now after Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach have both made some statements regarding Mayewather and the potential clash.

Manny Pacquiao has said that he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather because he wants to shut him up once and for all. Not a surprising statement given Mayweather's similar comments to the media recently, and all of the back and forth trash talk and blame that has occurred during negotiations and since the fight has been scrapped.

Of course, the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight was originally supposed to take place on March 13th of this year. Final terms for the deal could not be closed out due to disagreements about the drug testing to be performed leading up to the fight. Pacquiao of course signed to fight Joshua Clottey, and now negotiations are taking place for Mayweather to fight Shane Mosley in the beginning of May.

For his part, Freddie Roach has said the he still believes the fight will happen at some point later in the year. Of course, that's easy to say but the fight should already be set, so you never know how negotiations will go. Roach has also been known to change his mind and voice different opinions on matters such as this from week to week.

Even if the two sides really are planning to get Pacquiao vs. Mayweather together for later this year, perhaps in September, there are other serious obstacles to overcome. There is still the drug testing issue that was never dealt with for the original bout, and with all of the drama you could imagine the money terms also having to be rehashed.

Additionally, Mayweather potentially has the toughest fight of his career coming up in May if he and Mosley can agree to terms. If anybody thinks that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is a guarantee when Mayweather has to get past Shane Mosley, they are seriously deluding themselves. Pacquiao has an easier challenge with the somewhat complacently minded Joshua Clottey, but still, Clottey is the biggest and strongest fighter he has faced and may not be as easily deterred as some think.

So for now, it's just more talk from Pacquiao and Roach on the potential Pacquiao vs. Mayweather clash. Could it happen this year? Absolutely, but nothing is guaranteed... not with Mayweather vs. Mosley in the works, and not with these two sides trying to renegotiate something that already failed with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. It is, however, encouraging to see Pacquaio publicly express his desire to make the fight and Roach's belief that the fight will happen in 2010.

All talk about Mayweather Jr later this year is meant to blunt the edge of criticism for Mannys refusal to agree to random drug testing. Bob Arum and his Public Relations people are busy trying to clean up Mr. Pacquiaos Image. While the clean up is going on the Pacquiao inner circle continues to ask for a handicap when Manny fights big name welters. Manny has been cherry picking while being promoted by Bob Arum and can’t break the habit. He now needs a handicap every time he fights. He would rather give up a sure 20 mil plus than to fight Floyd on the square. Now he is quoted as saying he wants to shut Floyds mouth up. Its just a smoke screen. The Pacquiao group don’t want their earnings hurt by the bad publicity following Mannys refusal to random drug test. So they say don’t worry, come see me fight, I’ll get back to Mayweather Jr. Come spend your money. I don’t buy that and I won’t spend a penny On a Pacquiao fight until he agrees to random and fights without a catchweight handicap.

I think Roach and Pac-Man’s camp just wanted enough time to prepare Pac-man for the asswhippin of his life!! Lets face Bob Arum knows his cash cow will get the worst asswhipping he has ever had. Mayweather vs. Pac-man is nothing more than Mayweather vs Gatti! BEATING BEATING BEATIN!!!

  3. MikeL says:

I’m tired of hearing about the botched fight. I wanted it to happen, it didn’t happen, and I don’t think it ever will. I’m a Pacquiao fan, I
don’t blame him for not taking the blood test. The test may have caused
him to lose in 2005, hold your ground Manny. Floyd, if Floyd thinks
Manny is on something, then Floyd has the right to request whatever he
feels that is needed to be sure of a level playing field. Taking a
test after the fight is the same as checking to see if a gun is loaded after you pull the trigger. Both men have every right, it’s their lives, not ours.
I’m also tired of all these writers copying and pasting parts or whole
of everyone else’s articles. Articles are being posted on the net, saying the same damn thing another article said a week ago.
THE FIGHT IS DEAD FOR NOW, LET IT DIE, MOVE ON PEOPLE, JUST MOVE
    THE HECK ON.
If the talks are somehow brought back to the scene, I think Manny, and
Floyd should sit down and discuss it, man to man, I’m sure Floyd will
agree to something that will make Manny happy, and Manny will agree to
something that will make Floyd happy. I believe it all happend too fast. I also think Floyd sr. and Uncle Roger need to stop talking
    to the press.

  4. Huna says:

@Joe, You obviously know nothing about boxing. But you just might be a LAWYER. Nice Attempt at PROJECTION. The Only Cherry Picking Manny has done has been to challenge BIGGER fighters, While Mayweather’s Legacy has always been that of A DUCKER< Hence he ducked Margarito, Cotto, Mosely, Paul Williams. Mayweather is the one who always asks for the Handicaps, Made Hatton fight at an unprecedented 147, Manny beat Hatton in his element 140 where he was undefeated. Mayweather also blew up JMM to 144 which he never fought before. So that's two straight handicaps Mayweather insisted on. Mayweather squeaked out a controversial SPLIT decision against De La Hoya and refused to accept Dela Hoya's challenge to a rematch. Manny TKO'd De La Hoya and sent him into Retirement. Manny's Reputation is Taking all comers while FLoyds Legacy is that as THE GREATEST DUCKING COWARD OF ALL TIME. Go Ahead and Drink the Kool Aid Joe, With idiots like you out there I'm able to climb the corporate ladder and maybe out of kindness one day, I will let you mow my lawn and rake my leaves.

  5. A.V. Brown says:

I don’t get it.Floyd doesn’t want to fight Manny unless he is sure Manny is clean ,yet now,the same Floyd wants to fight Mosley, who did steroids during one of his fights. Can somebody explain this???

    • rob says:

hes fighting mosley whos going to do the test…mosley was dirty but he will mkae sure hes not when he fights him..he cant change mosley past and fi he didnt fight mosley he be called a ducker

  6. MikeL says:

I was not referring to this article in my above post. I don’t think
there was any copy and paste going on here, but there is way too
much of it going on these days.

  7. MikeL says:

sure A.V. Brown, Mosley admitted to using them before, claims he didn’t
know he was using, claims he is now clean, and he will agree to the
testing. However, I don’t think this fight will happen either. Too big
of a chance Floyd will lose. I actually think Floyd is done, finished,
maybe back in retirement or something, but he won’t fight a top
contender, he simply would not be able to handle the lose. He squeaked
by with the first Costillio fight, everyone thought Floyd lost that
    one.

  8. La Cucaracha says:

Floyd’s a coward. let’s leave the man alone. boxing don’t need him anyway. let’s enjoy pac-clottey instead. floyd’s silent right now but as expected..he’ll surface and open up his mouth again spewing jealousy and hate. if i were him i’d pull out a Tiger Woods kinda car crash and hope everybody’s gonna but it or stay retired. :)

    • rob says:

floyd silent because he dosnt need to run to media liek arum ..and mosley silent too cuz its going well and out of respect for the lost of berto they said it will not be discuss in the media whihc they are doing

  9. Wait-a-Minute says:

    QUESTION TO ALL:

What will happen if Mayweather loses to Mosley?
    How will that affect everything?
    Who will Pacquiao fight next?
Will it still be $40M each?
I’d like to pick everybody’s brain.

  10. MikeL says:

Arum is already talking Margarito for pacquiao. But then, Arum does
have long long list he brings up when the timing is right. I’d like
to see Manny vs Shane, I hope that happens after the Shane vs Floyd
falls between the cracks, and, I believe it will, like I said earlier,
Floyd won’t be able to take a loss, so I he won’t fight a top
    contender.
Pacquiao vs Mosely could pay even more than Mayweather. Wouldn’t that
blow Floyds top. ha ha ha
