Ruslan Provodnikov arrived in Los Angeles on Sunday night to begin preparations for a major spring bout that will be announced shortly. The “major spring bout” that everyone is hoping for is one between Provodnikov and Lucas Matthysse. That fight has been rumored for March 28th, or potentially another date in April.

A battle between “The Machine” and “The Siberian Rocky” would be an epic, brutal all-action affair. We currently rank Matthysse at #1 & Provodnikov at #7 in the Junior Welterweight division, behind champion Danny Garcia. Yet, this fight would be more than a simple match between top contenders.

This is the type of mouth-watering match-up that fight fans wait and pray to see. Matthysse is viewed as the more complete fighter, and has more one-punch power. Provodnikov is all aggression, heart and will to win, but clearly can be out-matched by superior technicians. Make no mistake though, Matthysse vs. Provodnikov would be head to head, and sensationally fun for as long as it lasted.

Provodnikov was greeted in LA by his manager Vadim Kornilov and was joined by Andrey Fedosov. They will begin training at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood.

Stay tuned for more updates and a hopeful announcement soon that Matthysse vs. Provodnikov has been finalized.
