AIBA agrees to system tweaks leading up to Tokyo 2020 Olympic boxing

At the AIBA Extraordinary Executive Committee Meeting in the Swiss city of Montreux on Monday, the collective strength of AIBA and the unswerving support of President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu were underlined by all Executive Committee (EC) members on the eve of its 70th anniversary. Technical and AOB rules, financial updates and the calendar for the new Olympic Cycle to Tokyo 2020 were all unanimously agreed upon during a session that underlined the integrity of the institution, the EC and all who represent AIBA’s forward-looking direction.

AIBA votes that professional boxers can compete in Olympics

Historic AIBA Extraordinary Congress approves registration of non-AIBA professional boxers for all competitions The International Boxing Association (AIBA) convened an Extraordinary Congress in Lausanne on June 1st in a bid to remove Article 13 (J) of the AIBA Statutes. The new article will open the doors to boxers from all organisations to participate in AIBA competitions. This amendment was ratified by an overwhelming majority of 95% of the delegates attended the Extraordinary Congress.

2015 Pan American Games underway; 120 boxers competing in all 13 Olympic divisions

The boxing tournament of the 2015 Pan American Games began on Saturday, July 18, as 120 of the best men’s and women’s boxers from the Central, North and South America regions compete for gold medal glory. 10 men’s weight categories from Light Flyweight (49 kg) to Super Heavyweight (91+ kg) will feature across three 3 minute rounds, while the trio of Olympic women’s weight classes will respectively fight over four rounds of 2 minutes.
