How impressive will the undefeated Bradley look against the old veteran Casamayor?

On the undercard of the Pacquiao/Marquez showdown on November 12th, one of the supporting bouts on the pay-per-view will include a fighter who is definitely at the end of the road in his boxing career in Joel Casamayor, and Timothy Bradley, newly signed to Top Rank and seriously trying to increase his status as a possible next opponent for the best fighter in the world, the main event star, Manny Pacquiao. Bradley and Casamayor will square off in the bright lights of Vegas as the undefeated Desert Storm looks to successfully defend his WBO light welterweight title and look impressive in the process.

Tale of the Tape

Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley is 28 years old, with a great boxing record consisting of 27 wins, 0 losses, 1 bout ending in a no contest, and 11 of his victories that came by way of knockout.  He stands at 5 feet 6 inches tall with a 69 inch reach, fighting out of the orthodox stance.

Joel “El Cipillo” Casamayor is 40 years old and he also has a great boxing record consisting of 38 wins, 5 losses, 1 bout ending in a draw, and 22 victories that came by way of knockout.  He stands at 5 feet 7 inches tall; fighting out of the southpaw stance.

Timothy Bradley is the former WBC light welterweight champion (although he was unjustly stripped of that title, and should still hold it) and the current WBO light welterweight champion.  He is currently ranked number 8 on the ProBoxing-Fans.coms boxing pound for pound list.

The Desert Storm started his professional boxing career back in 2004 and boasts an undefeated record, with impressive victories over fighters such as Junior Witter to capture the WBC light welterweight title, Kendall Holt to capture and unify the WBC and WBO world titles, Lamont Peterson, and in his last fight, a showdown with another then undefeated fighter in Devon Alexander, in a fight that Bradley was awarded a ten round technical decision victory.

After the Alexander fight, Bradley was set to be on a collision course with Amir Khan on July 23 of this year.  Two million dollars was offered to Bradley to fight Khan and Bradley turned it down, as many believe that Bradley simply was content to get in line for a dream shot to challenge Manny Pacquiao.

Crafty Joel Casamayor is the former WBA and WBO super featherweight champion, and the former WBC lightweight champion.  Casamayor is known for his gritty boxing skills as he likes to crowd his opponents in hopes of landing his signature uppercuts.

Casamayor had an excellent amateur boxing career as his accomplishments consist of winning Gold in the 1989 junior world championships in the bantamweight division, winning Gold in the 1992 summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain also in the bantamweight division, along with a host of silver and bronze medals between the years of 1993 and 1995 during his amateur career.

Casamayor has quality victories over fighters such as Nate Campbell, the late great Diego Corrales and Michael Katsidis, and he has notable losses by great fighters such as Acelino Freitas, which was the first loss of his boxing career, Diego Corrales in their rematch, Jose Luis Castillo, the great Juan Manuel Marquez, and Robert Guerrero.

Bradley vs. Casamayor Prediction

This should be a very easy fight for Bradley, and quite simply, Casamayor is at the end of the road in boxing. One thing I would like to point out, however, is that Bradley has a hard time finishing guys so do not be surprised if this fight goes the distance. It should not, but do not be surprised.

I expect Bradley to pressure Casamayor, as Casamayor will be backing up in hopes of catching Bradley with a counter uppercut while doing what he can to make the fight a tough, gritty encounter.  I feel that Bradley will be simply too skilled for Casamayor and he will get the impressive victory that he is looking for in hopes of winning the Pacquiao lottery.

Prediction:  Timothy Bradley by eight round technical knockout victory
