Trainer Joel Diaz has been named the new head man in charge of former junior welterweight world champion Ruslan “The Siberian Rocky” Provodnikov.

Provodnikov, coming off a loss in a war against Lucas Matthysse, was formerly being trained by Freddie Roach and his team at the Wild Card. Of course, he would often not be working with Roach, or even have Roach in his corner, due to his busy schedule. Perhaps that’s a reason for the switch after another tough loss.

For Diaz, his camp was suddenly a bit more clear with the departure of Timothy Bradley. So it seems as if it’s a perfect match for both fighter and pupil.

Diaz, who has guided many world champions, will train Provodnikov in Indio, California as Provodnikov prepares for his next bout, which will be announced shortly. Here, you can find a video interview with Diaz as discusses his new relationship with Provodnikov.
