Viloria defeats Romero via 9th round TKO

Viloria vs. Romero III Results

Brian Viloria finally got the edge over Omar Nino Romero, defeating him via 9th round TKO to retain his WBO flyweight title. Romero’s corner halted the action in the 9th stanza as Viloria pummeled him along the ropes. With the win, Viloria was able to erase their previous two encounters, in which Romero first defeated him via Unanimous Decision in 2006 at junior flyweight, and then a rematch between the two men ended in Majority Draw before being  ruled a no contest after Romero failed a drug test.

Viloria’s win also continues his career resurgence. Written off by many people, he’s now the de facto number 1 guy in the world at flyweight.By moving past his old rival, he can now focus on bigger fights in the near future. His confidence must now be at all-time high after a huge upset win against Giovani Segura, and this victory against Romero.

Viloria now improves to 31 (18) – 3, while Romero falls to 31 (13) – 5 – 2.

In earlier action, Rodel Mayol defeated Julio Cesar Miranda via 10-round Unanimous Decision. Mayol now improves to 31 (22) – 5 – 2, and hasn’t lost since Romero defeated him and took his WBC junior flyweight title in 2010.

Miranda falls to 37 (29) – 7 – 1. He had won two in a row after dropping a decision to Viloria last summer.
