Does Mayweather Bypass Pacquiao in our Welterweight Rankings After Ortiz KO Win?

The Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz fight will keep us talking for weeks to come. There was the crazy knockout, the ridiculous Merchant vs. Mayweather argument, the controversy from everything that happened, and of course the entire event itself. But it's also time to take a look at the welterweight division rankings to see how the Mayweather vs. Ortiz results have shaken things up, if at all. Read on below to find how the top 10 at 147 lbs looks today.

---> Continue to our updated welterweight division rankings here!

Before the two fought, Mayweather was at #2 in the welterweight division and Ortiz was at #3. Despite the craziness of the fight, it's hard to change things up too much based on each of their performances. But let's just say the rankings will look differently, and it may rub some people the wrong way... and yes, it involves Manny Pacquiao. So be sure to take a look. It was definitely a landmark win for Mayweather over a top welterweight guy, and that says a lot about everyone's place in the division.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao is facing a ligthweight champion in a welterweight catchweight fight next, and a guy who we've already seen Mayweather dominate at the same weight. So that won't improve his standings at welterweight either way. So Pacquiao might still be the best pound for pound fighter in the world, but is he still the number 1 guy at welterweight? Hmmm.

So take a look at all of our updated rankings and be sure to check out all of the rest of the continuing coverage that we'll have about the Mawyeather vs. Ortiz fight, results, aftermath, controversy and more. It's all right here in one place, ProBoxing-Fans.com.

This ranking is for the WWE welterweight division right? Floyd’s the #1 welterwieght in WWE with his last performance.

  3. James says:

There is reason to question whether Mayweather actually wants to fight Pacquiao. And you can hardly blame him.

Here is what happened to some of Pacquiao’s last seven opponents:

Antonio Margarito, pummeled repeatedly, broken orbital bone, sent to hospital. Miguel Cotto, pummeled repeatedly, TKO, sent to hospital. Ricky Hatton, knocked out cold, sent to hospital, hasn’t fought since. Oscar De La Hoya, pummeled repeatedly, TKO’d, hasn’t fought since. David Diaz, pummeled repeatedly, TKO’d, sent to hospital.

The other two (Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley) essentially refused to fight, covered up for 12 rounds and accepted lopsided losses by decision.

Pacquiao doesn’t just defeat opponents; he punishes them right into an ambulance. Mayweather, attempting to spin the argument, notes that he beat most of those guys before Pacquiao and claims he “softened them up.”

Perhaps. It’s also possible Mayweather sees the destruction Pacquiao can do to a man’s health, reputation and career, and wouldn’t mind avoiding him completely.

Only Floyd knows for sure. Mayweather and Paquiao fight will never happen.
