Adam Azim vs Rylan Charlton – Results & Post-Fight Report

A rare Sunday of action at the Alexandra Palace, London, and in the main event, Adam Azim justified his hot prospect tag by sensationally knocking out Rylan Charlton in the second round of their super lightweight bout set for ten rounds.

Azim (7-0, KO6) is touted as a future superstar by his handlers Boxxer, after a string of highlight reel type knockouts, but his meeting with Charlton (9-4-1, KO4) was set to be his toughest to date, with the Norwich man previously stopping Joe Laws and giving Florian Marku a decent run for his money.

A big right hand scored Azim a knockdown in the opener, and Charlton was on the canvas again shortly after the resumption, a superb left hand doing the damage. After winging in some spiteful shots in the second, Azim uncorked a chopping right hand that felled Charlton, and the towel came in at the same time as the stoppage.

With Lerrone Richards v Zak Chelli called off at the last minute due to an injury to Richards following a fall, the chief support was for the vacant British cruiserweight title, where Mikael Lawal (17-0, KO11) took the Lonsdale Belt, as David Jamieson (9-2, KO6) was forced to retire due to injury after the eighth round.

This was a rematch of their meeting in the final of a Ultimate Boxxer event, that Lawal won on points, and this one was a superb all-action affair. Jamieson was right in the fight, but at the end of the eighth, he looked to his corner to indicate that he may have broken his jaw, and they pulled him out of the bout between rounds.

Sam Gilley (15-1, KO7) retained his English super welterweight title, scoring a knockdown in a points win against Sean Robinson (11-2-1, KO0). A cracking short right hand dropped Robinson in the sixth, and Gilley ran out a winner by scores of 98-91 (twice) and 97-93.

Adam Azim’s brother Hassan Azim (5-0, KO2) appeared early on the bill, and banked six rounds to take a 60-55 victory against Nestor Amukoto (2-4-1, KO0) at welterweight. Shannon Ryan (4-0, KO0) did the same against Ivanka Ivanova (5-21-3, KO5).

Rhys Edwards (13-0, KO4) extended his unbeaten record, winning every round of six at super featherweight against Alexis Boureima Kabore (29-6, KO8).

Jimmy Lee (3-0, KO1) opened the show, and the super featherweight outscored Jahfieus Faure (1-9-1, KO0). Lee came through 39-37.
