Top 5 Best Argentinean Boxers

Best Boxers from Argentina:

Take a look at the top 5 boxers in history from Argentina, including all-time greats in the sport from the past, and one of the best champions and pound for pounders of the present.

  1. Carlos Monzon (Career: 1963-1977): The 6-foot Monzon was one of the greatest Middleweight Champions of all time, reigning from 1970 to 1977 and compiling 14 defenses. Holds wins over Nino Benvenuti (twice), Emile Griffith (twice), Bennie Briscoe, Jose Napoles, and Rodrigo Valdez (twice). The great Argentine went unbeaten in his final 81 fights.
  2. Pascual Perez (Career: 1952-1964): 4’11” dynamo won Olympic Gold in 1948, before running off an unbeaten pro streak of 52 fights. Became Flyweight Champion in 1954 and reigned until 1960. Dominant run as champion distinguished him as one of the greatest flyweights of all time.

  4. Nicolino Locche (Career: 1958-1976): The unique Locche was one of the more naturally gifted defensive fighters of all-time. Could stay in the pocket, while his opponent flailed away with futility. Lost only 4 times in 136 fights. Holds wins over Joe Brown, Eddie Perkins, Carlos Hernandez, Antonio Cervantes, and fought to draws against lightweight legends Carlos Ortiz and Ismael Laguna. His nickname “El Intocable,” meaning “The Untouchable,” was highly appropriate, as the chain-smoking Locche was nearly impossible to hit with a solid shot in his prime.
  5. Victor Galindez (Career: 1969-1980): The light heavyweight great reigned from 1974 to 1979 and made ten successful defenses. Galindez beat Richie Kates (twice), Yaqui Lopez (twice), Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, and Mike Rossman. One of the best light heavyweights during a glorious era in that division.
  6. Sergio Martinez (Career: 1997-present): Still active and already with a body of work robust enough to crack the top-five of his nation’s illustrious boxing history. Big-time wins over Kelly Pavlik and Paul Williams puts him in good stead and even at 36, is likely to add some nuggets to this resume before it’s all said and done.
