Official Chavez-Martinez Weights & Analysis
Chavez Jr vs. Martinez
- Julio Cesar Chavez Jr: 158 lbs
- Sergio Martinez: 159 lbs
The big concern was that Chavez Jr isn’t going to make weight, however that wasn’t the case. In fact, he came in 2 pounds under, and actually looked a bit scrawny and drawn out as a result. It appears as if he undercut himself, and that could potentially affect his energy levels come fight night.
The crowd in Vegas was going absolutely crazy for the Chavez-Martinez weigh-ins, with strong representation from both Mexico and Argentina. After the fighters stepped on the scales, they got up in one another’s face a bit, and Martinez was talking a ton of trash, and egging on the crowd throughout.
He seems to be in rare form, and while Chavez’s energy is a concern, it’s a concern whether Maravilla is fully prepared, or if he’s a bit too amped up. But he did look to be in absolutely phenomenal shape.
Macklin vs. Alcine
- Matthew Macklin: 160.5 lbs
- Joachim Alcine: 158 lbs
Macklin is a very muscular dude, and he looked cut at the weigh-in. Alcine is a former junior middleweight, and has a much more slender frame. Macklin will look to impress here, but the veteran Alcine does have a tricky style.
Martinez vs. Beltran Jr
- Roman Martinez: 129 lbs
- Miguel Beltran Jr: 131 lbs
Beltran was apparently overweight by 1 pound, and will have to come back to the scales to make weight.
Rigondeaux vs. Marroquin
- Guillermo Rigondeaux: 122 lbs
- Robert Marroquin: 122 lbs
Rigondeaux is in phenomenal shape as usual here, and he’ll be expected to dominate against Marroquin, who has been matched out of his league here.
