David Haye insists that Anthony Joshua is capable of beating Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch if he makes the right adjustments.

Usyk relieved Joshua of his unified heavyweight world titles with a dominant display of skill to claim a deserved unanimous decision at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday and become only the third man in history to win world titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight, behind Haye and Evander Holyfield.

The Brit, who attempted to outbox the Ukrainian former undisputed cruiserweight champion does have a rematch clause which he said in his post-fight press conference he intended to exercise, whilst promoter Eddie Hearn said it could be staged in February or March.

The ‘Hayemaker’ has advised Joshua to use his physicality more in a rematch and cites Derek Chisora’s early success during his eventual unanimous decision loss to Usyk, as a benchmark for how the 31-year-old could approach a second outing.

“Anthony Joshua has a chance to reclaim his titles, it’s going to be a mega, mega match,” Haye said on Instagram.

“A fight that I believe AJ can win. Looking at this fight you would say no, but he has what it takes. But he needs to change a lot of fundamental things in his game.

“Just rewatch the fight with Dereck Chisora. Chisora brought a game plan to the table.

“He doesn’t have the physical attributes of Anthony Joshua but was able to win significantly more of the rounds in a very, very close fight.

“So if Anthony Joshua uses his physical attributes in the fight – it’s no good looking at them in the mirror, they’ve got to be implemented in the fight.

“If they can be forced on Usyk, he can reclaim the titles. But if he tries to have a boxing match, or does anything remotely close to what he was doing on Saturday night, it will be the same again.”
