Bet on the Chavez Jr. vs. Vera Rematch:

On Saturday, March 1st, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. takes on Bryan Vera for the second time. In their first fight, Chavez Jr. controversially won a decision over the upset-minded Vera, whom most believe won the fight. Chavez was overweight, overconfident and under-prepared, and it cost him in the ring. But how will the rematch play out, and will Vera actually be able to get the win if he earns it again?

Take a look at the Chavez Jr. vs. Vera betting odds to see how the two fighters stack up.

  • Bryan Vera: +375

Analysis

The odds here are a little surprising in some ways. Chavez Jr. is a better than 5-to-1 favorite, despite the fact that he almost unanimously was believed to lose the first fight (except by the judges, of course). Still, I think everyone is in agreement that Chavez is the better and more skilled fighter when he’s properly prepared — disciplined, in shape, on weight, and focused on the fight. He also is significantly larger and stronger. So, the numbers suggest that Chavez will show up to salvage his career here and take care of business.

The Chavez vs. Vera odds though also reflect the fact that it’s still going to be exceedingly difficult for Vera to get the decision. Despite the controversy from the first fight, the rematch is going to be held in Texas, which means that, no pun intended, all bets are off. Texas has been home to a slew of awful decisions and controversies over the past few years, and this bout could provide yet another.

Bottom Line

Vera isn’t in a good spot here, and neither are you, if you’re backing him to win. He could win even more clearly than he did in the first match, but the Texas judges will be likely to screw him regardless. Unless you think Vera can actually stop Chavez in the rematch, it’s hard to lay your money down on him.
