More Rankings Updated: Welterweight after Pacquiao-Margarito; Light Heavyweight After Hopkins-Pascal and More

Last week we made a major update to our weight class rankings, and updated four or five divisions all at once. We had some catching up to do! Well, we were back at it again today, and overhauled some more of our rankings which were in need. We went back at the welterweight division, after the big Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito bout last month and other recent action, the light heavyweight division after Jean Pascal vs. Bernard Hopkins, and more. Check it out…

At welterweight, the biggest recent bout (and it was basically a welterweight bout, even though it was for a 154 lbs title, was Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito. But Andre Berto has also been in recent action, and some young prospects, like Saul Alvarez and Kell Brook, are on the rise.

At light heavyweight, the biggest news was the recent controversy that was stirred up when Jean Pascal escaped with a win over Bernard Hopkins. But again, there are a lot of fresh faces on that list as well. Meanwhile, Beibut Shumenov and Juergen Braehmer are scheduled to have a unification bout in January, but where do they stand? And what about UK prospect Nathan Cleverly?

At cruiserweight, we basically have a two man show at the top. We have Marco Huck, who has beaten half of the top 10, and Steve Cunningham, who has beaten the other half, including Huck! Now promoted by the same company, they’ll meet soon, but there is finally some fresh blood trickling up the top 10, like Freddie Roach pupil Lateef Kayode.

At middleweight, we have a suddenly established champion in Sergio Martinez. After him… a whole big mess. There are a lot of untested prospects, and they’re mixed in with untested European titleholders and contenders, and old guys looking for another shot. But watch out for two guys… Dmitry Pirog and David Lemieux.
