Burns vs. Zlaticanin Results from Glasgow:

Ricky Burns was upset by opponent Dejan Zlaticanin on Friday night in the headline event of a card in front of his home fans in Glasgow, Scotland. Burns dropped a split decision, with scores of 115-113 and 115-113 for Zlaticanin overruling one 115-113 card for himself.

Burns was sent down in the 1st round on a flash knockdown, and that ultimately was the deciding factor in the fight.

It’s the second straight defeat for Burns, and if you wanted to count what should have been a loss to Raymundo Beltran, it’s three straight. Despite working with a new trainer, Tony Sims, Burns was unable to find his form of old. And it’s certainly time to ask the question – is this the end of the line for Rickster?

After exceeding the expectations of most and becoming a respected two-division titleholder, Burns has quickly started spiraling downward. In truth, Zlaticanin may have been an underrated opponent, coming into the bout with an undefeated record, and with a win over Petr Petrov.

Yet, he was still largely untested, and this was the supposed to be a fight in which Burns began his climb back to the top of the division. Clearly, if Burns was on top of his game, he would have been able to handle Zlaticanin.

We’ll see if Burns opts to retire or if he continues to battle on his career.

On the undercard, Willie Limond defeated Curtis Woodhouse via clear decision, although one judge ruled it a draw, with scores of 116-111, 117-109 and 113-113.

Stephen Simmons scored a 10th round stoppage over Wadi Camacho. With all of the trash-talking and feuding before this fight, most were expecting a more intense battle. Instead, the fight was fairly even-keeled, but the class of Simmons showed through and the referee pulled the plug.
