Jordan Gill considers the victor of the vacant IBF Featherweight world title clash between Kid Galahad and Jazza Dickens as a future opponent.
Galahad and Dickens meet for the crown vacated by Josh Warrington on August 7th at Fight Camp, with Gill (26-1, 7 KOs) keeping a close eye on the winner with a rating of #11 with the IBF.
‘The Thrill’ is aiming for a September return against European Featherweight champion Andoni Gago and believes a win over the Spaniard, who was held to a technical draw with Gavin McDonnell in April, will keep him on the path towards an IBF title tilt.
“He’s ranked very highly with the IBF, he’s number six with the IBF,” Gill told proboxing-fans.com on his proposed bout with Gago.
“So, beating him would put me in a great position with them as well and also solidify my rankings at the moment.
“So, that’s the next step. The EBU mandated me which was a really nice surprise so there’s negotiations to make that fight, probably in Spain looking at the first or second week in September.
“It’s definitely a future fight [against the winner of Galahad Dickens].
“I’m ranked in the IBF and it’s exciting times for me, because I’m looking at the whole division and thinking there’s some great fighters there.
“There’s some great fights to be involved with and for me growing up always looking at people that are world champions or on world level, you’re always striving to be there and now I’ve got to this position and my name is in the mix and it’s a good feeling.
“It’s nice to be talked about or to be considered to be fighting for a world title and when I do get that opportunity, believe me I will grab it with both hands.”
The 27-year-old has registered three victories since a sole loss to Mario Tinoco in May 2019, most recently securing a unanimous decision win over Cesar Juarez to win the vacant WBA International belt.
The Chatteris man, who is trained by Dave Coldwell had been linked with a showdown with domestic rival Isaac Lowe, potentially on a proposed Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury bill, which ultimately failed to materialise.
