Joey Gamache expects Klara Svensson (15-0, 5 KOs) to seize her moment and claim the WBC Female World Light Welterweight title when she challenges Erica Anabella Farias (21-1, 10 KOs) on May 2 at the Frederiksberg-Hallerne in Copenhagen.

Gamache has been studying Farias ahead of the Swedish star’s world title challenge, and despite the champion’s pedigree, the renowned American coach is confident his fighter has the ability to dethrone the experienced Argentinian.

“Farias is an unpredictable slugger, who has fought over ten world championship fights, so we know we can’t take her for granted,’’ said the former two-time world champion.

‘’But, fundamentally speaking Klara has more tools to work with. She’s got the height advantage, a longer reach and greater power. I expect her to be too big and too strong for Farias.

‘’I’m not taking anything away from the champion, but, in my opinion, this fight is Klara’s to lose. I really feel that it’s her time to shine and I expect her to grab this opportunity with both hands.

‘’Klara has never worked harder in the build up to a fight. She is constantly pushing herself in the gym and as a trainer I couldn’t ask for more. She is very demanding and never content. Let me tell you, that hunger will take her very far.”

This fight marks the culmination of the one and a half years Svensson and Gamache have spent working together. As the duo prepare for the biggest challenge of their so far successful partnership, the Malmo-boxer has heaped praise on her 48 year-old coach.

“Joey is the best,” said Svensson. “We have great chemistry. I’m the type that needs a gun to my head and Joey knows that. Since beginning of this year we have become much closer because of the magnitude of this fight. He is so dedicated and prepares for every little detail. Together, we have come up with the perfect plan to defeat Farias.’’
