The highly anticipated British quadruple-header originally scheduled for March 16, headlined by a Lightweight title unification fight between Ricky Burns and Miguel Vazquez, has been postponed until April 20. The core reason behind this was apparently a case of food poisoning or a viral infection suffered by Vazquez.

Additionally, the four-fight marquee lineup is down to three, with George Groves withdrawing from the fight, and moving from Frank Warren to rival Matchroom Sport. He’ll be getting right into action, and then plans to fight on the May 25 Mikkel Kessler vs. Carl Froch card.

Apparently both of the other bouts have been in question, too.

Nathan Cleverly has also been battling some sort of stomach virus, while Dereck Chisora still has not been re-licensed. In other words, whether Vazquez got food poisoning or not, this card seemed doomed, at least for its originally scheduled date.

Hopefully everything gets put back together and all the fighters get healthy so the event still goes off in April. Burns vs. Vazquez is an intriguing, high-quality match, with the winner being the de-facto best challenger for the number 1 Lightweight in the world, Adrien Broner.

And seeing so many of Britain’s top fighters on one card was definitely a big draw. So let’s just cross our fingers for now and see what happens over the coming weeks.
