David Benavidez admits he’d relish a future fight at Wembley Stadium and named Ben Whittaker as a potential opponent.

Whittaker is ranked at nine with the WBC in pursuit of light heavyweight world champion, Benavidez who defends his crown against Anthony Yarde on November 22 in Riyadh.

‘The Mexican Monster’ revealed his desire to fight in the UK to former super middleweight world champion, Carl Froch and believes Whittaker could fit the bill for him, but concedes ‘The Surgeon’ requires more experience having only had 10 professional fights.

“Hopefully one day I can get a fight out there with somebody,” the 28-year-old said on Froch On Fighting.

“Maybe me and Ben Whittaker.

“I think he’s a good fighter, but he’s still too green right now.

“He’s a good fighter, but he needs more experience.

“But hopefully in the future, we can make that happen.

“It’s one of my dreams to fight out there at Wembley Stadium.

“The crowd and the energy out there is just amazing.”

Whittaker returns to the ring on November 29 in Birmingham, where he vies for the WBC Silver light heavyweight title against Benjamin Gavazi.

Benavidez was elevated to full WBC champion in April after Dmitry Bivol opted to vacate his belt.

Yarde is looking to win a world title at the third attempt, having previously fallen short against Artur Beterbiev and Sergey Kovalev and the Phoenix man insists he has plenty of respect for the Londoner.

“I have a lot of respect for Anthony Yarde,” he added.

“I’ve been watching him for a long time, even from before he fought Sergey Kovalev.

“He has a good defence. He has good counter shots.

“I’ve had my eye on him for a while.

“He’s been in there with some tough fighters, Artur Beterbiev, Sergey Kovalev, he’s came up short.

“But nonetheless he’s a great fighter with tremendous heart.

“He knows he has his back against the wall, that this is his last time at a world title, so he’s going to be coming in extremely ready, but that is what excites me.”
