Derek Chisora and Jarrell Miller are on course to fight before the end of the year.
Chisora and Miller are in negotiations to meet on December 13 in Manchester, with talks at an advanced stage, sources told proboxing-fans.com.
Reports surfaced over the weekend suggesting the potential match-up was signed, but the pair remain in discussions, sources said.
Chisora has been on the hunt for the 50th and what he claims will be the final bout of his 18-fight professional career.
The former heavyweight world title challenger had held talks with Zhilei Zhang, but Miller is the preferred choice, sources said.

Rising heavyweight prospect, Moses Itauma was expected to headline the bill, but the 20-year-old is in line for a showdown with WBA ‘regular’ champion, Kubrat Pulev with the pair given until November 14 to reach a deal.
Just a day after the WBA ordered the fight, it was announced that Pulev will defend his title against Murat Gassiev on December 12 in Dubai.
It remains unclear whether Itauma will still feature on the a proposed Chisora-Miller card.
Chisora, 41, is on a run of three straight victories since defeat to Tyson Fury in December 2023, outpointing Otto Wallin in his last fight in February.
Miller, 37, was held to a contentious draw by Andy Ruiz Jr in Los Angeles last August and hasn’t fought since.
The news comes on the same week undisputed heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk announced he will fight for another three years.

The 38-year-old stopped Daniel Dubois in their July rematch at Wembley Stadium to become a two-time undisputed titlist.
Chisora, who lost to the Ukrainian on points in October 2020, is the number two rated contender to Usyk’s IBF title.
Usyk was ordered to defend his WBO crown against Joseph Parker, but the bout was delayed after the two-weight world champion was granted an extension on negotiations following an injury and Parker will risk his position against Fabio Wardley at the O2 Arena this Saturday.
