Trainer Dave Coldwell spoke to Boxing News about Deontay Wilder’s upcoming fight on June 27th.
He also spoke on a long-rumoured clash between Wilder and Anthony Joshua as both look to get their careers back on track.
Joshua and Wilder have been on a collision course for years but a fight has still elluded them.
Coldwell insists the fight should be made next providing Wilder beats Tyrrell Herndon on June 28.

“Why not, why not? listen Wilder is not the fighter he once was.
“But then, is AJ?
“Neither of them is in the same place where we wanted the fight to happen.
“It is just a lesson to promoters and managers, and even fighters.
“When the fight is hot and it’s there, take it because it is not guaranteed to happen.
“It’s not guaranteed to be the same as what it is in this moment in time.
“I always think to do the fight, and then if it is that good, you can have a rematch down the line as well.
“Rather than building, building, building and getting greedy.”

Coldwell, despite doubting both men’s current level, still showed a desire for this matchup.
“Would I still want to see it? Yes, I would.
“It’s a fun fight, and as a neutral, it is a fun fight.
“You want to see two guys who can punch.
“I’d like to see what Wilder’s got left in this comeback fight.”
Coldwell, despite wanting to see the fight, remained hesitant about wanting to see a ‘Bronze Bomber’ return to the ring.
He also mentioned his age (39), explaining he doesn’t see the American getting any better in the future.
“He’s (Wilder) not looked good in his last couple of fights.
“To the point where he can’t pull the trigger anymore.
“When a fighter can’t pull the trigger, I don’t think he should be boxing.

“He looks like he hasn’t got any legs.
“He is always gonna be tough as old boots, he’s got plenty of bottle, plenty of heart.
“When there’s nothing else there, they shouldn’t be boxing.
Despite the fight being years after many initially wanted it, Joshua vs Wilder remains a heavily rumoured matchup and seems it will until one man retires for good.

Joshua is set to return later this year with clashes against Jarrell Miller, Wilder and Whyte having all been rumoured for the two time world champion.
