David Haye, Ricky Hatton & Darren Barker Set For 25th July Charity Football Tournament
On Sunday the 25th July some of the biggest names in British Boxing, along with stars from TV, Film and Music, will be gathering at the Brockwell Stadium in Canvey Island to participate in a football tournament to raise funds for The Indee Rose Trust, which provide support to children recovering from brain and spinal tumors.
The tournament, which is organized by renowned professional boxing coaches Johnny Eames and Derek Grainger of the Ultrachem TKO Gym in Canning Town, will include teams headed by WBA Heavyweight World Champion DAVID ‘HAYEMAKER’ HAYE, former undisputed Light Welterweight King RICKY HATTON, WBU Lightweight World Champion WILLIE LIMOND, European Champion DARREN BARKER, British & Commonwealth Super Featherweight Champ KEVIN MITCHELL, British Super Middleweight Champion PAUL SMITH and Commonwealth Champions RICKY BURNS & TONY BELLEW.
Joining the aforementioned professional boxing champions will be Olympic Gold Medallist JAMES DEGALE, World Amateur Champion FRANKIE GAVIN and Olympian BILLY JOE SAUNDERS.
From the world of television and film, actors GERALD KERNS & CIAREN GRIFFITHS, both of whom are currently starring in the hit TV series SHAMELESS, and former English Super Featherweight Challenger and CORONATION STREET star STEPHEN BELL will be guesting on the National Journalists team.
Rock superstars IRON MAIDEN, who are favorites to win having former MILLWALL, WEST HAM UNITED , TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS, MANCHESTER UNITED & ENGLAND star TEDDY SHERRINGHAM as their striker, will be representing the music biz along with RAZORLIGHT frontman JOHNNY BORRELL, who will be guesting on the ULTRACHEM TKO GYM team.
Johnny Eames said, “First of all I want to say what a great honour it is to be associated with The Indee Rose Trust. It’s a trust that’s run by the two parents that tragically lost their three year old girl to a brain tumor. Unbearable thing to think about really. They have set up this trust fund to raise valuable cash to help children under the age of eighteen who are recovering from brain and spinal tumors.
We’re privileged to put the Ultrachem TKO Gym name to the trust and we are, hopefully, going to put on a yearly football tournament to raise funds for the trust. The response, for the first tournament on the 25th July, has been fantastic. So many boxing stars, journalists and stars from music and television have pledged their support.
It started as an idea, that grew, and thanks to these great people looks like it’s going to be a great event with ten star packed teams taking part.
I would also like to thank Canvey Island Football Club who have, not only loaned us their stadium for the 25th July tournament, but today I read have said that The Indee Rose Trust is to be their chosen charity for the coming season. Which is fantastic, and I would love to see our efforts bring more people to make it their chosen charity for this year. It’s not our charity for just this year though. For as long as Ultrachem TKO Gym is around The Indee Rose Trust will be our chosen charity and we’ll raise funds for the trust.
Finally I would like to thank the guys who have pledged their names to come and play at the tournament, as well as my own fighters. I know that everyone of them will be there on the day supporting the Indee Rose Trust.”
