Jaron Ennis blew away Uisma Lima in the opening round to win the WBA interim super welterweight world title in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs), who came into the bout as a heavy favourite, dropped Lima (14-2, 10 KOs) three times before referee Shawn Clark intervened with Ennis reining in punches on his foe at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.

‘Boots’ was making his debut at super welterweight after relinquishing his IBF and WBA welterweight crowns following his victory over Eimantas Stanionis in April.

The 28-year-old Philadelphia native quickly switched to the southpaw stance after starting off as orthodox and the impact was almost instantaneous.

A three-punch combination which finished with a right hook put Lima onto the seat of his pants.

The 32-year-old, who had never previously been stopped, rose quickly, but a follow-up assault saw him down for the second time.

Sensing an early finish, ‘Boots’ swarmed his overmatched opponent and a further onslaught forced the referee’s intervention, with the towel also thrown in by Lima’s corner.

Ennis, who put himself in line for a shot at WBA champion, Abass Baraou, called for a showdown with WBC interim titlist, Vergil Ortiz Jr who faces Erickson Lubin on November 8 in Dallas.

“I sent a big message,” he told DAZN.

“Y’all know who I want next.

“It’s going to happen next.

“If he don’t win, I’ll fight Lubin, but I want Vergil Ortiz next.”

Should a clash with Ortiz Jr not materialise, Ennis said he would be willing to face super welterweight world champions, Sebastian Fundora, Bakhram Murtazaliev and Xander Zayas, as well as former titlist, Jermell Charlo.

“If we can’t get Ortiz next, I heard Charlo was calling me out too,” he added.

“He can get it next.

“Fundora, Bakhram [Murtazaliev], the IBF champ he can get it.

“Xander [Zayas] he can get it.

“Anybody at 154. I’m belt chasing. This is my division.”

Vianello blasts out Barriere

Guido Vianello breathed new life into his career by stopping Alexis Barriere in the fifth round of their heavyweight clash.

Vianello (14-3-1, 12 KOs) dropped the previously undefeated Canadian in the fourth round after a heavy assault and Barriere (12-1, 10 KOs) was saved by the bell.

Vianello pounced on his rival in the fifth round, flooring him with a right hand and the 30-year-old southpaw was unable to beat the referee’s count.

The Italian claimed the vacant WBC Continental Americas title with victory.

Smalls sees off Roman

Tahmir Smalls extended his perfect professional record, scoring a knockdown on route to a unanimous decision win over Jose Roman Vazquez.

Smalls (16-0, 11 KOs) appeared on the brink of an early victory after dropping Roman (14-2, 6 KOs) with a left hook in the third round, but the Puerto Rican rallied to take the fight to the distance.

Smalls secured the WBA Continental North American welterweight title with scored of 98-91, 96-93 and 95-94.

Thompson sees off Diaz

Super bantamweight prospect, Dennis Thompson got the better of Sean Diaz after an enthralling six rounds.

Thompson (8-0, 5 KOs) ran out the winner by split decision with two scores 60-53 and 57-56, cancelling out a 56-57 in favour of Diaz (9-1, 2 KOs).

Remaining Undercard

Super featherweight prospect, Zaquin Moses (5-0, 3 KOs) continued his education with a dominant points win against Antonio Dunton El Jr (6-5-2, 2 KOs).

British lightweight prospect, Giorgio Visioli (9-0, 6 KOs) was victorious on his US debut, taking a comfortable victory over James Wilkins (13-4).

Harley Mederos (9-0, 8 KOs) opened proceedings and the lightweight forced Hylon Williams’ (16-6-1, 3 KOs) corner to pull him out before the start of the second round, following three first-round knockdowns.
