Heavyweight Johnny Fisher has confirmed his new trainer after parting company with Mark Tibbs.

Fisher announced his amicable split from Tibbs last month following his rematch defeat to Dave Allen in May.

‘The Romford Bull’ was brutally stopped in the fifth round at the Copper Box Arena, the first loss of his professional career, having beaten Allen by split decision in December.

The 26-year-old revealed on Sunday that he would be guided by Tony Sims moving forwards.

Sims, whose current stable boasts the likes of Conor Benn, former world title challenger, Craig Richards and soon-to-be British title challenger, George Liddard, has also previously worked with both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury in the early stages of their careers.

“I’ve always had a good rapport with Tony,” Fisher told IFLTV.

“I’ve always had an admiration [for him].

“He’s had a great track record with some great fighters, Darren Barker, John Ryder and if I can be half as good as them men, I would have done alright in my career.

“I just liked the way I gelled with Tony.

“Big emphasis on the fitness side of things and I just think it’s that fresh start I need.”

The Essex man says he will have two fights this year, as he looks to bounce back from defeat to Allen.

Fisher was trained by Tibbs and his father Jimmy from his professional debut in February 2021 and thanked the pair for their efforts in guiding his career.

“It is with a heavy heart that after almost five years of being on this professional journey together, me and Mark have decided to part ways,” he said on Instagram.

“Boxing is the toughest sport in the world, and to continue I feel I need a fresh start to get the best out of myself.

“Me and Mark have made some special memories and reached some milestones in my career that many thought we never would achieve.

“More importantly than all of this though is the friendship we have gained, and to know that I have Mark and Jimmy in my life and to be able to call them both friends is an honour.

“Thank you for everything.”
