Former world champion, Jaime Munguia has failed a drugs test after his rematch win over Bruno Surace on the undercard of Canelo’s victory over William Scull earlier this month.
Munguia, who suffered a first professional defeat to Canelo last May, tested positive for exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites in a urine sample taken by VADA, the day after his unanimous decision win over Surace, according to Ring Magazine.
According to the Ring, the Mexican has 10 days to request analysis of his B-Sample.
The 28-year-old suffered a shocking sixth round knockout loss to the Frenchman in his hometown of Tijuana in December and subsequently joined Canelo’s trainer Eddy Reynoso for the rematch.
Surace, 26, admits he’s surprised by the news of the test result and has called for the result to be overturned.

“I’m shocked by the news that Jaime Munguia tested positive for a banned substance,” the 26-year-old told The Ring.
“There’s no place in boxing for cheating; the sport is dangerous enough already.
“I went to Mexico and knocked out Munguia fair and square in December and I was gracious enough to give him a rematch in May.

“He knew he could not beat me on a level playing field.
“I trust that this result will be overturned immediately.”
Boxing insider, Dan Rafael reported there’s a “high probability” the bout would be overturned to a no contest, making Munguia’s victory void.
Munguia was competing on the undercard of new stablemate Alvarez’s bout with Scull in Riyadh, where the the 34-year-old became the undisputed super middleweight champion again.

Canelo faced off with Terence Crawford after announcing their clash immediately afterwards for September 12 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Saudi Arabian boxing chief, Turki Alalshikh who is organising the fight, announced that it would move to September 13 and Alvarez told reporters last week that it would remain in Las Vegas, although the venue is likely to change.
