Jaron Ennis and Eddie Hearn made it clear Vergil Ortiz Jr is their number one target.

Ennis destroyed Uisma Lima inside the opening round of his 154 pound debut in Philadelphia on Saturday and both him and his promoter, Hearn called for a clash with Ortiz Jr.

Hearn went as far as to say his fighter would “destroy” Ortiz Jr, however the 27-year-old’s trainer is not convinced ‘Boots’ is truly seeking a fight with him and believes he is looking for another bout before stepping into the ring with the Texan.

“Did you see Boots right next to Eddie,” Garcia told ES News.

“Like, ‘shut the f*** up, don’t say too much, man, give me one more fight, I want one more fight.’

“You could tell right away.

“He wants two tune-up fights, this was the first one.

“Next one he’s going to get two or three more rounds, that’s what he wants.”

Hearn though claims Ennis, who secured the WBA interim title by beating Lima, has signed his side of the deal to face Ortiz Jr next.

Ortiz Jr will first defend his WBC interim championship against Erickson Lubin on November 8 in Dallas and Garcia insists the eagerly-anticipated match-up should take place next.

“He just fought,” the 50-year-old added.

“Vergil is fighting in four weeks.

“So sometime next year, the fight should happen.

“It has to happen.

“Vergil wants to fight everybody.

“They both hold interim titles, but they don’t have to have any of the main [titles].

“That’s the biggest fight in the division.

“It would do really good numbers on pay-per-view.”

Should an Ennis-Ortiz Jr clash fail to materialise, ‘Boots’ is in line for a clash with WBA champion, Abass Baraou, who told Pro Boxing Fans he would welcome a showdown with the Philadelphia man.

Ortiz Jr could target the victor of the now postponed meeting between WBC titlist, Sebastian Fundora and Keith Thurman, which is expected to be rescheduled for January after Fundora suffered a hand injury in training camp.
