George Groves has had his say on Chris Eubank Jr’s rematch with Conor Benn.

Groves defeated Eubank Jr in 2018 and now leans towards a Benn win in their rematch in November.

Eubank Jr and the ‘Destroyer’ met in April earlier this year and put on a contender for fight of the year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Both men left everything in the ring with both admitted to hospital that evening with injuries sustained in the fight.

They are now scheduled to meet again on November 15 at the same venue.

Groves spoke to FightLens and explained how we may see a different Benn in their rematch in November.

“It was pure drama, like a Hollywood movie, how amazing would it be if he just walked away then.

“At the pinnacle of his most prestigious win.

“But he can’t, most fighters can’t, it’s hard.

“Does Conor Benn beat him in the rematch? He full well could.

“Conor Benn could be the fighter that comes back better.

“If that’s the case, Benn beats him, it was that close last time.”

A lot was made of the weight stipulations in the first fight with Benn jumping up two weight classes and Eubank Jr not only coming down but having to adhere to a rehydration clause.

It was clear Eubank struggled to make the weight from gruelling sauna videos shared online, to him being fined £375,000 for weighing in 0.05 lbs over the 160lbs limit.

Eubank Jr’s promoter Ben Shalom has caused confusion, saying they had not agreed to the rehydration clause on the DAZN livestream.

Groves feels his former opponent had little choice but to fight Benn as he enters the latter stages of his career.

“Chris Eubank Jr I think, what are your options now, straight after Conor Benn? Fight Benn again, fight Canelo, retire or chase a middleweight belt?

“I don’t think he can win a middleweight belt, I don’t think Canelo’s a good fight for him.

“You lived your best moment in that fight with Conor Benn last time out.”

The 35-year-old has shown interest in a fight with Canelo Alvarez in the past.

He also went to social media to congratulate Terence Crawford after his win over Alvarez and called out the undisputed super middleweight champion, despite employing his trainer Brian ‘Bo Mac’ McIntyre for his rematch with Benn.
