Eddie Hearn is not convinced Jermell Charlo is completely serious about facing Jaron Ennis.
Ennis, who has had his last four fights under Hearn’s Matchroom banner, called out Charlo after stopping Uisma Lima inside the opening round of his 154 pound debut earlier this month.
Charlo, who has not fought since losing to Canelo Alvarez in a bid for the undisputed super middleweight crown in September 2023, appeared to open the door to a showdown with ‘Boots’.
“I think Boots is a great fighter,” the 35-year-old said in a video posted on social media.
“But I give him all the problems in the world.

“Styles make fights.”
However, Hearn believes the former undisputed super welterweight champion would demand an unrealistic payday to step into a ring with Ennis.
“I like the fight,” the Matchroom boss told Pro Boxing Fans.
“I just don’t believe he’ll take it.

“These guys they just price themselves out straight away [and they say] ‘oh, that’s just my worth.’
“It’s not your worth mate.
“I know the numbers and if you want the fight and listen you’ll be very well paid.
“But if you actually want the fight rather than want a payday, let’s talk.”

According to Hearn, Ennis has signed to fight Vergil Ortiz Jr, who defends his WBC interim super welterweight title against Erickson Lubin on November 8 in Dallas.
The pair were linked to a clash when both men campaigned at welterweight and the Philadelphia man set his sights on Ortiz Jr after halting Lima, which secured him the WBA interim crown.
“I sent a big message,” the 28-year-old told DAZN.
“Y’all know who I want next.

“It’s going to happen next.
“If he don’t win, I’ll fight Lubin, but I want Vergil Ortiz next.”
