Lennox Lewis has backed Daniel Dubois to gain revenge over Oleksandr Usyk and become the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Lewis will be a keen observer when Usyk and Dubois clash for a second time on July 19 at Wembley Stadium.

The 59-year-old had his status as the last undisputed heavyweight titlist eliminated when Usyk achieved the feat last May by defeating Tyson Fury.

The Ukrainian relinquished the IBF belt in order to secure a rematch with Fury and Dubois was elevated from interim holder to full IBF champion.

Dubois, who was stopped by Usyk in nine rounds in August 2023, has been resolute in his beliefs that he should have been awarded the victory after flooring his rival, only for the referee to call a low blow.

And Lewis has backed his countryman to avenge his defeat.

“I’m thinking he’s ready,” the 59-year-old told Queensberry Promotions.

“He’s been through the trials and tribulations.

“He’s the king slayer. He’s got the power. He’s been there before.

“He was just there, he knocked [Usyk] down, so he knows what he needs to do.

“It would be great for him to do it, another man for Great Britain.

“It’s not an easy task, but he’s definitely the man that can go through with it.

“He’s done the work. He’s gone through the pedigree.

“He’s a certified champion and I think he has big hopes on doing it.

“He’s going to do it.”

Dubois retained his IBF crown with a thunderous fifth round knockout of Anthony Joshua in September.

Usyk retained his WBA, WBO and WBC titles with a second straight win over Fury in December and has confirmed he has two fights remaining in his storied career.

“I think two years, one and a half [left in boxing],” the 38-year-old told Sky Sports.

“I feel great myself.

“I feel I have two fights to prepare [for], not more. Just two.”
