Jai Opetaia has opened the door to an explosive showdown with David Benavidez.

IBF cruiserweight world champion, Opetaia operates one division above Benavidez, who defends his WBC light heavyweight world title against Anthony Yarde in Riyadh on November 22.

Opetaia will make a fourth defence of his crown against mandatory challenger, Huseyin Cinkara on December 6 and says he will then target fellow world champions Badou Jack and Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez to give him the chance to become the undisputed king.

The Australian southpaw has then welcomed a meeting with fellow unbeaten world champion, Benavidez and insists Saudi Arabian boxing chief, Turki Alalshikh is keen to make a bout between them.

“6th December, we’ve got to take care of business,” the 30-year-old told FightHype.com.

“I’ve messaged Badou Jack personally myself and I said, ‘Are we fighting? What’s going on?’

“He said he wants the fight.

“We’ve got to take care of our mandatories and he wants the fight.

“Be a man of your word.

“Turki Alalshikh and Dr Rakan, they have told me that they want these fights to happen.

“They want it over in Saudi in January.

“Badou Jack, which is another hard fight, win that.

“If we win that then we go to Zurdo Ramirez, we win that, and then once we do that he told me he wants Benavidez to come up to cruiserweight and we fight Benavidez.

“If that’s the course, let’s f**king do it. I’d love to fight him.

“He’s a great fighter, he’s got a great following, he’s been in the ring with some great fighters.”

With unifications failing to materialise, Opetaia has been linked with a move to heavyweight, with his manager Mick Francis claiming in August that a fight with Derek Chisora was discussed.

However, the two-time cruiserweight world champion says he in no rush to leave his current division before achieving undisputed status.

“Once we tick that box, who knows, maybe the heavyweight chapter starts then,” he added.

“But I’m not rushing my journey for anyone else.

“I’ve had a dream to become undisputed my whole life and that’s what I’m going to become.

“Heavyweight will happen when I say it’s ready, not when people want to throw it in my face.

“I’m not chasing the money, we’re chasing the dream, the money will come.”
