Caleb Plant says he would be willing to go straight into a fight with Jermall Charlo next, despite his shock defeat to Jose Armando Resendiz.

Plant’s planned showdown with Charlo appeared to go up in smoke after he suffered a split decision loss to Resendiz at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Charlo kept his end of the bargain by defeating Thomas LaManna in the co-main event and a meeting with ‘Sweethands’ was scheduled to take place next.

Plant insists a clash with the 35-year-old could still be next for him or a rematch with Resendiz.

“I’m down for anything,” the 32-year-old said in his post-fight press conference.

“I’d go right into the Charlo fight, but we’ve got a rematch clause.

“So I’m more than willing to run it right back.

“Absolutely [I’ll fight Charlo next]. No doubt.”

Charlo, coming off an 18-month lay-off due to mental health problems, dispatched of LaManna with the referee stopping the bout before the start of the sixth round on the advice of the ringside doctor.

The two-weight world champion admitted he would also be open to facing Plant next, despite his surprise defeat, which saw him lose his WBA interim super middleweight title.

But the Houston man says his preference would be a showdown with undisputed champion, Canelo Alvarez.

“Caleb Plant dropped the ball,” Charlo said in his post-fight press conference.

“He looked out of shape.

“He couldn’t have fought me tonight.

“I want my lick back. I still want my lick back.

“I don’t care if he’s got the belt or not.

“We can make a belt. They can make a belt. Somebody make a belt.

“I want my lick back.

“Hopefully I can get the Canelo fight.

“Wouldn’t y’all wanna see that?

“I’d rather fight Canelo than Plant.”
