Caleb Plant tops a Premier Boxing Champions card at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas this Saturday, as he defends his WBA Interim super middleweight title against Jose Armando Resendiz.
Amazon Prime televise Plant vs Resendiz live.
Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) has seen his career stall slightly after becoming IBF world champion in 2019 with a points win against Jose Uzcategui.
‘Sweethands’ defended that belt three times, the last a shutout success over Caleb Truax in January 2021, but would suffer a first career defeat in November of the same year when going for undisputed glory as he was decked twice before being halted in the penultimate frame against Canelo Alvarez.
He rebounded with a win, but was then beaten on the cards by David Benavidez in March 2023, and has only been seen once since, when he had to get off the canvas to stop Trevor McCumby last September.
He now faces Mexico’s Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs), who has fought just once since September 2023. He does hold a 2023 win against former world champion Jarrett Hurd, but was defeated in his next outing, and returned in February in a six rounder that he won in the fifth against Fernando Paliza in Guadalajara.
Prediction: Plant will hope to impress here, and put himself in the shop window for bigger fights. He can grind down Resendiz in this one, and wear the visitor down for a stoppage win late on.

Charlo clashes with LaManna
Jermall Charlo makes the move up to super middleweight, and hopes to secure a showdown with Plant, but first he must take care of Thomas LaManna.
Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) is a former WBC middleweight champion, but has only boxed on one occasion since June 2021 where he defended his belt on the cards against Juan Macias Montiel.

He was last out in November 2023, outscoring Jose Benavidez Jr over ten in Las Vegas. LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KOs) is on a nine-fight winning streak since being iced inside a round by Erislandy Lara in 2021, but all against low-level opposition.
Prediction: Charlo has been out of action for some time due to mental health issues, and he will want to get back in to contention as soon as possible. After shaking off a few rounds of rust, Charlo can score a stoppage in the middle rounds.
Remaining Undercard
Middleweight talent Yoenli Hernandez (7-0, 7 KOs) is also in action, and he can remain perfect by stopping Kyrone Davis (19-3-1, 6 KOs) inside schedule.
In eight-rounders, Isaac Lucero (16-0, 12 KOs) can take his Mexican Derby against Luis Valenzuela (23-0, 20 KOs) on points at super welterweight, and at lightweight, Curmel Moton (7-0, 6 KOs) can score another early win, this time against Cuba’s Renny Viamonte Mastrapa (4-1-1, 2 KOs).
Filipino super bantamweight, Carl Martin (25-0, 20 KOs) should get past Francisco Pedroza Portillo (19-12-2, 11 KOs), but may need the distance to do so.
In six round contests, Cristian Cangelosi (10-0, 5 KOs) should outscore Samuel Figueroa (13-2, 6 KOs) in their super welterweight bout, and at super lightweight, Justin Cardona (9-1, 5 KOs) can get the better of Elijah Williams (10-1, 4 KOs), also on points.
Super middleweight prospect, John Easter (8-0, 7 KOs) should bank another early win, with Andres Martinez (5-3, 3 KOs) his opposition.
The only four rounder should see a win for Brayan Gonzalez (3-0, 2 KOs) against Osiel Flores (2-0, 2 KOs), likely on points at super bantamweight.
