Mikaela Mayer crossed the border into Canada, and left with the WBC, WBA and WBO super welterweight titles as she claimed a comfortable points win against Mary Spencer at Montreal Casino on Thursday.
Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs) had already been world champion at super featherweight and welterweight coming into this one, while Spencer (10-3, 6 KOs) won the interim WBA belt with a points win against Naomi Mannes in September last year and was then upgraded to full champion, and was last out in April, taking a wide points win against Ogleidis Suarez.
Both started off on the jab in the opening round, but Mayer’s speed was the key, and a big left hand got Spencer’s attention.
The visitor’s jab worked well to the body in round two, and the pair then traded a round later, with Mayer again quicker on the jab, and another meaty left landed as she applied constant pressure.
Spencer did gamely put punches together in the fourth, but the 35-year-old was happy to exchange, and she was pushing back the naturally bigger Spencer as she connected.

The WBA champion was game, having her best round in the fifth with combinations and a sharp uppercut finding the mark.
Mayer, who beat Sandy Ryan for the second time in April, re-asserted, with her volume of punches and speed winning the day, but her progress was checked in the eighth as Spencer stunned the challenger with a right hand.
