Alan Sanchez headlines Solo Boxeo on August 25 in homecoming bout

Fresh off of his nationally-televised knockout win over Artemio Reyes in April, 21-year-old welterweight prospect Alan Sanchez returns home to Fairfield, Calif. on Saturday, August 25 to headline the “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” card to face Downey’s veteran Manuel Leyva in a 10 round battle at the Fairfield Sports Center. In the co-feature, Fairfield’s Manuel “Tino” Avila takes on Vicente Alfaro of Norfield, Minnesota in a six round junior featherweight fight.

A favorite of Northern California fight fans since his debut in 2009, Alan Sanchez (10-2-1, 4 KO’s) made a name for himself with his win over then 11-0-1 Alberto Morales, a draw against 10-0 Luis Grajeda and a controversial decision loss to Artemio Reyes. In April of 2012, Sanchez got another shot at Reyes and evened the score in emphatic fashion by knocking his rival out in the first round. Now the entire boxing world is watching his progress and he can’t wait to show fight fans how far he’s come on August 25 against the veteran Leyva.

Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico native Manuel Leyva (21-7, 12 KO’s) has hit some rough road since his highly-disputed split decision loss to Cuban great Joel Casamayor in March of 2011, but given his talent and determination to succeed, he has all the motivation in the world to get back on track and stop the rise of Alan Sanchez later this month.

Less than a month after his win over Raymond Chacon on the Guerrero-Aydin undercard in San Jose on July 28, 20-year-old Manuel “Tino” Avila (8-0, 2 KO’s) will be back in action and looking to improve on his perfect professional record. A former amateur star who is looking to stay busy after dealing with some injuries, Avila plans on a big finish to his 2012 campaign, beginning with his homecoming fight against Alfaro on the 25th.

30-year-old Minnesotan Vicente Alfaro (5-1, 1 KO) may have gotten a late start in the fight game, but with wins in five of his six professional fights, he has the potential to give Avila a run for his money in Fairfield. Alfaro’s last win over then 8-0-1 Gary Eyer shows that he’s not intimidated by a hot prospect with an unbeaten record and will look to repeat history on August 25.

Sanchez vs. Leyva, a 10 round welterweight bout, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Don Chargin Productions in association with Paco Presents and is sponsored by Cerveza Tecate.  Doors open at 6:00 pm on fight night and the first bell rings at 7:00 pm.  The TeleFutura “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast begins at 12:00 a.m. pm ET/PT.
