Kalle Sauerland’s Wasserman Boxing promote a night of action at York Hall this Friday, and former world champion Charlie Edwards is at the head of affairs, taking on France’s Georges Ory for the vacant WBC International Silver bantamweight title over a scheduled ten rounds.

Channel 5 televise Edwards vs Ory live in the UK.

Edwards (18-1, 7 KOs) has seen his career plateau somewhat since leaving Eddie Hearn‘s Matchroom in 2020, and he will be looking to breathe new life into it with victory here.

The Surrey native became WBC flyweight champion in 2018, outscoring Cristofer Rosales, and defended once before a controversial no contest against Julio Cesar Martinez saw him vacate to move up in weight.

The 31-year-old has only fought twice since December 2021, and at a much lower level than what he is used to. He was last out in June last year, winning all six rounds against Darwing Martinez in Manchester.

Edwards now faces 32-year-old southpaw, Ory (17-3-1, 2 KOs), a former European champion at bantamweight and an IBO super flyweight title holder.

The Frenchman has won his last six on the spin since losing via retirement to Karim Guerfi in 2019. He was last out in October 2023, taking the vacant WBC Francophone title with a points win against Pablo Ariel Gomez.

Prediction: Edwards rapidly needs to make up for lost time, but he may have to go the distance here for starters, where he should run out a clear points winner.

Southern Area title fight at super welterweight

The vacant Southern Area super welterweight title is up for grabs, and Kingsley Egbunike (8-3-1, 1 KO) can avenge a 2022 six round points loss to Jordan Dujon (9-3) with a points win over ten rounds.

Remaining Undercard

The sole eight rounder is at super middleweight, where Denmark’s unbeaten Oliver Zaren (10-0, 2 KOs) should come through via decision against John Harding Jr (11-2-2, 2 KOs).

In six round action, Elliot Whale (9-0, 5 KOs) can win on points in his welterweight meeting with Spain’s Joseba Diaz (7-1, 3 KOs), and Robert Lloyd-Taylor Jr (6-0, 1 KO) can do the same at super lightweight against Denis Hnidek (4-1, 4 KOs).

Heavyweight prospect Harvey Dykes (2-0) can take his first early win against Milos Veletic (2-4, 1 KO).

In four rounders, Tom Welland (3-0, 2 KOs) can win inside schedule against Salah Talbi (3-3-3) at super bantamweight, and Jesse Brandon (3-0, 1 KO) may need all four rounds to defeat Jakub Laskowski (4-28-1, 2 KOs) in their super lightweight meeting.

Debutant Christian Fetti should win against Eliecer Quezada (24-22-3, 9 KOs) on points at super featherweight.
